Tuesday, 12th Mar 2019

SPFL League v St Johnstone, Tuesday 12th March 2019, Callum Hendry (25) 0-1. Myles Hippolyte (41)

DUNFERMLINE RESERVES 1 ST JOHNSTONE RESERVES 1

The Reserves started with four players named as substitutes at Alloa on Saturday - Myles Hippolyte, Mark Durnan, Matthew Todd, Robbie Muirhead - for this SPFL Reserve League match at a windy New Central Park on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pars showed good intent from their kickj off with Muirhead forcing a save out of saints keeper Jack Wills within 24 seconds. Lewis McCann won a free kick on the edge of the St Johnstone D and then Hippolyte winning one that Muirhead sent straight through to the keeper. Hippolyte continued the threat firing an eighth minute free kick over the bar.

The Perth side came back into it forcing a corner that they took quickly but Todd won possession and next Pars keeper Craig Burt gathered a high cross in from Aaron Comrie.

A corner for the home side resulted as Munro turned the ball behind in 21 minutes and when Todd delivered Durnan got his head to it but not enough and Saints tried to hit on the counterattack. That ended with Callum Hendry pinging the ball though the Dunfermline box to result in a goal kick.

In 25 minutes HENDRY took advantage of the defence losing possession as they attempted to play the ball out. 0-1

Hippolyte had a shot blocked and on the half hour McCann shot narrowly wide after he had benefited from good linking up between him and Smith. Dunfermline survived a free kick from 28 yards out that was blocked by the two man wall and Todd cleared a 36th minute Hamilton corner.

Then in 41 minutes Todd provided the ball to the right post where HIPPOLYTE sneaked in to convert after there had been a slight deflection. That meant that the sides went in level at the break.

Brandon Luke replaced Paul Allan before the match resumed. The first threat of the second half came from a Stuart Morrison free kick just inside own half and Smith was unlucky with his effort from close range that just missed the far post.

Hippolyte then sent a shot just wide of the Saints goal and prior to that Hamilton had the ball in the Pars goal but was judged to be offside. Smith then worked his way down the right but his ball was too strong and went out for a goal kick. Smith then had another chance but screwed his attempt wide of goal from a McCann back header.

St Johnstone too were off target when Hendry`s effort was just wide of Burt`s goal. Then when Brian won free kick off Paul Brown on left touchline, Burt gathered McKenzie`s high ball into the box.

Morrison cleared upfield to Smith, but his defender recovered to stop the shot, then at the midpoint of the second half McCann did execute a shot but fired it straight at the keeper.

In 77 minutes a great bit of play by Todd to evade four tackles then won a free kick. The setpiece came back to Todd and his shot deflected off Wills and on to the crossbar. McCann dispatched the follow up over the top.

Burt had to look lively to stop Robertson and then the follow up was sent wide. Sawers and then Todd were caught offside but both had added time attempts. Todd’s was blocked and then the keeper saved Sawers.

As the scoreline showed there was nothing between the teams but it was a decent game in the windy conditions.
