U19s v Aberdeen

Friday, 13th Apr 2007

Aberdeen Phinnished off at the Fleet Ground as Dunfermline`s youth team run riot.

DUNFERMLINE 4 ABERDEEN 0

Both teams could be happy with the starts they made to this SPL U19 match played at the Fleet Ground on Friday afternoon.  There were chances at both ends with Nick Phinn shooting wide and Alan McDonough dispossessing a defender to draw a save out of the Aberdeen keeper from 20 yards.

Pars keeper Greg Paterson pulled off a good save from an Aberdeen striker on 15 minutes and then when good passing from the Dons opened up the Pars defence soon after, Paterson parried a shot from just inside the box and then dived at the feet of a striker before the follow up could do damage.

Midway through the first half Dunfermline took the lead when Charlie Bradshaw`s cross from the right was sent high in the air by a Dons defender and quick thinking by PHINN sent a looping header from the edge of the box over the keeper into the net.

With the comfort of the lead the home side stayed on top and increased it just nine minutes later. Sandy Nairn`s pass found Calum Smith whose flick played in McDonough.  He in turn fed the ball to PHINN who took the ball well to finish low past the keeper.

Despite playing against the wind Dunfermline turned around at half time three goals ahead. The third goal coming in 43 minutes when a Clark Kay corner from the right overshot the box but Neil Fenwick stole the ball off a Dons defender to return a cross that McDONOUGH converted at the near post.

The Fifers remained well on top in the second half and their defence restricted Aberdeen to very few chances. In contrast the Pars had several opportunities but could only take one.

In 49th minute Smith fed off a Derek Howie pass but sent the effort over the crossbar.  On the hour Howie ran through on to a Kris Maxwell flick but once through on goal hit the crossbar before in 77th minute Phinn`s shot was turned around the post for a corner that produced the fourth goal. Kay`s corner was headed on to the crossbar by Smith and in the scramble that followed FENWICK stuck the ball away.

Close to the end Smith turned his man on half way but as he released his shot as he approached the box, a defender got back to force him to shoot narrowly wide.
