Brew wishes for Pars

Thursday, 26th Mar 2009

"When I caught it, I caught it sweet and it was fortunate to go in the top corner.

Craig Brewster v Dunfermline 24/03/09

Former Pars favourite Craig Brewster scored for Ross County on his return to East End Park in February and scored in great style again on Tuesday night leading to him expressing a wish to play against Dunfermline every week.

"I had a special two and a half years at Dunfermline and I was fortunate to score tonight" said Brew.

He felt that goals don't come much better than the one that won the game against the Pars.  In fact at the tender age of 42 he admits he can't remember any more spectacular:- "I've scored a few good ones but half of them I have forgotten."

His memory does manage to recall what he thought might have to be his last goal on 22nd September 2007. An 86th minute sub for Inverness Caley Thistle he scored a 90th minute goal to defeat Hearts 2-1 but re-invented in Dingwall Brew's  most recent strike was extremely important for County:-

"It was crucial but I thought we played well tonight. The key battle was in midfield but I thought we got to grips with it.  We were a goal up, doing well and then a great Graham Bayne header and you suddenly think 'here we go again'. To get the winner was sweet and to get three points a real boost."

Dunfermline players know the feeling that Brew described:-

"We have played well this year but not killed teams off or haven't scored at the crucial times. Then this ball comes and I am just saying to myself  'oh well it is spinning towards the goal, I am just hitting this. When I caught it, I caught it sweet and it was fortunate to go in the top corner.

"With the wind in the first half we created many chances and you are thinking in the second half Dunfermline will throw a lot at us but I thought we coped and dug in right from the start of the second half.  We played some decent stuff and I am delighted for the boys because I thought we played well."

At his age and on a heavy pitch that Victoria Park was on Tuesday night most would have expected Brew to have been subbed before he popped up with the injury time winner:-

"I still get a buzz from training, didn't play on Saturday and was fresh for tonight."

It was Ross County's first win since 21st February - the day they won 2-1 at Dunfermline but it does look as though Brew is enjoying the job as number two to Derek Adams:-

"When the manager invited me here until the end of the season as player/coach I was delighted.  He helps me, I help him.  We bounce ideas off each other and I think that's what he was looking for. I am enjoying that role."
