Callum ready for tougher task

Saturday, 23rd Nov 2013

"We dominated pretty much the whole game and then they got a scrappy goal near the end.

CALLUM MORRIS

Callum Morris is hoping that Dunfermline will take confidence from their three goals, clean sheet and three points that they returned home from Airdrie with last weekend. He also feels that after throwing away two points at Glebe Park earlier in the season they need to make amends against Brechin City on Saturday.

"We owe them one after the last game. We dominated pretty much the whole game and then they got a scrappy goal near the end. I think last Saturday gives a big confidence boost, not conceding and scoring three goals. If we can do that again this coming Saturday then we will be alright again.

CALLUM MORRIS

"We knew it was coming, we knew that we were capable and just had to go and do it. Once we got the goal we knew that there would be more. Like the gaffer said the other day, the disappointing thing is that we did not score more goals. Basically I will take 3-0 any day of the week. We were happy with that but Brechin will probably be a tougher task than Airdrie."

It was a rare clean sheet for the Pars and their first since the opening day of the league season at East Fife:-

"That's what you want as a defender; strikers are interested in goals and defenders in clean sheets. I think we have played better defensively in games where we have conceded more goals. I am not taking away from the performance on Saturday, I thought we played well but for me personally as a back four, even when conceding three goals against Rangers, we probably played more as a unit. We were probably stronger but that's football.

"We have enough to win it and I am sure that we will keep a good run going and take that into the cup game against Ayr. We are good to go.

"We want to open a big gap in the league and maybe keep in touch with Rangers. They are going to have to drop points some time, if we are right behind them we can keep the pressure on. It is something for us to aim at and we want to chase them."

Callum set out a goal of trying to amass the biggest points tally possible:-.

"If it comes to the end of the season and Rangers have won the league, you have to be in the top four to get into the play offs. Over the season you want to play as well as you can in every game, you want to get as many points as possible. Some people think Rangers are out by themselves anyway and that it is between the other nine.

"We are capable of staying second and if Rangers drop points we can catch up and put pressure on them. That's our goal really."

CALLUM MORRIS v RANGERS

Rangers have a 100% league record but Callum felt that against Ally McCoist's team, they gave a good go.

"Maybe we didn't do as well as we should have done going forward but it just shows you that they are not invincible, far from it. They will get injuries like you saw against us when they got a couple. All these factors come into play and if we can stay fully fit, keep going the way we are going then I don't see any reason why we cannot chase them there. We just need to concentrate on ourselves, keep playing well, keep scoring goals, keep clean sheets and keep that run going."
