Cardle Posts Goal Claim

Joe claims goal:- "The last I saw of it hit the post then it looked as though the keeper just carried it in."

Dunfermline's goal - Super Joe says its his!

Joe Cardle made a big impact when he was introduced as a substitute early in the second half. Within three minutes he saw his shot hit off the far post and cross the line off keeper Craig Samson:-

"That's what I am there to do - to make a difference. Unfortunately I did not make the big difference in getting the other goal back. I did get one, I am happy with my own performance but it was not the best outcome."

No one really knew who to give credit to but Joe was reluctant not to miss the opportunity to stake his claim on the goal:-

"If I have got it then I will take it. As I said before with my other two, you will take any goal in this league. I took a quick throw in, I think it was Kirkie who played it back and I have just put a ball into the box. I thought it was going wide but it just curled in a wee bit. The last I saw of it hit the post then it looked as though the keeper just carried it in."

Sitting on the bench until the 59th minute allowed Joe to take in every aspect of the game and hear his Manager's frustrations vented as well:-

"It is easy watching from the bench but when you are on the pitch it is a completely different game. We went with a formation that used wing backs and it was hard to get the balls out wide for Paddy Boyle and Paul Willis for them to get the ball into the box. We have to give St Mirren credit for the good stuff they played in the first half.

"They played very well first half; they passed the ball about very well and we were under the cosh for a lot of the first half. The gaffer had to change it up a bit in the second and decided to put me and Barrowman on. That gave us a wee boost. As the game went on we had some chances but unfortunately didn't put them away."

Joe revealed that Jim McIntyre is striving to get his team playing the way they did for the last half hour of the game all the time:-

"The gaffer said that the way we played in the second half, we need at the start of the game. If we had played the way that we did later on in the game we might have come away with a draw or even a win with the chance we had later on. We need to take that back and have a look at the video maybe Monday or Tuesday, before the Celtic game."

St Mirren v Dunfermline

A start at Celtic Park is what Joe Cardle would dearly love but accepts that his chances are dictated by what he can show in competitive play:-

"I will do my talking on the pitch and let the gaffer decide. The 24 year old can't wait for Wednesday and is hopeful that he will not get any reaction from his 31 minutes on Saturday:-

"I can still feel my knee but I am icing it every day. It is getting better. After playing ten minutes in the Hibs game it was horrific but coming off after the St Mirren game was a big difference. Fingers crossed I don't feel it tomorrow.

"I have not trained properly for the last month or so. I got a training session under my belt on Thursday and Friday there so I was just happy to get on the pitch."

Another factor that pushes Joe Cardle on is the fantastic encouragement he receives from the stands where he is affectionately known as 'Super Joe'. He was quick to acknowledge the help which was particulary vocal at New St Mirren Park:-

"You can't praise the help from the fans enough, they are brilliant, especially with me. When I am warming up and I get the chant they get me going and then I am dying to get on the pitch. That's what they have done for me ever since I came to the club; they do a lot for me and the players."
