Dargo's goal is promotion

"The future is bright at Dunfermline if the squad can continue to develop in the way that Jim Jefferies sees them

Craig Dargo

Craig Dargo is hoping to come into the new Dunfermline squad and use his experience to help blend the team together. He revealed how the move from Dumbarton came about:-

"I had spoken to Jim Jefferies during the summer and it was a difficult situation because of the whole saga and fiasco at Rangers - nobody knew what was happening, is it Premier League, is it First Division. Everybody had to wait and see what was going to happen with the whole situation. Thankfully it got resolved and I'm just pleased to be here and I am looking forward to the season."

It was an uncertain period for the 34 year old waiting to see how his future was going to shape up. Now he will share coaching duties with John Potter in the Under 20s while being available to turn out for the first team as well in the First Division.

"I had been offered things elsewhere but I spoke to Jim Jefferies and told him that I'd like this opportunity to come in and be part of what he is trying to build. I think I can bring quite a bit to the table as well; I will be there if he wants me to play just as little or as much as he wants.

"I can play with the 20s and help them along as you saw on Tuesday night against Kilmarnock. I have an eye on playing and I will be a good squad member as well.

"The future is bright at Dunfermline if the squad can continue to develop in the way that Jim Jefferies sees them and wants them to go. I wanted to be a part of that."

Craig has experience in the top rung of Scottish football with Kilmarnock, Inverness, St Mirren and of course, Raith Rovers. Along the way he has proven himself to be an important goalscorer and assisted Dumbarton in the play off final against Airdrie United by netting a pair.

It was his former St Mirren colleague Jack Ross who got Craig to join part timers Dumbarton in the Second Division after and unsuccessful trial at Greg Shields Carolina Railhawks.

"Jack said that I could do them a good turn. I'd just come back from America and was fighting fit so I went there for a couple of months and helped the club win promotion for the first time in 18 years.

"It worked well for both parties, kept me playing and scoring goals. With securing promotion it worked out well and promotion is also what we are after here. That is the goal of everybody in the dressing room. It is not going to be easy, the boys know that as well. There is a lot of hard work to be put in and the boys know that but if everybody is pulling together and has the same thought in their heads then that's not a bad start.

"You need to set yourselves a goal at the beginning of the season; that's our aim and we will fight as hard as we possibly can for it. It might take a wee while to get going but that is when the supporters need to get behind the team so that we are all pulling in the same direction."
