Faiss has everything to celebrate

Sunday, 12th Oct 2014

Pars Man of the Match reflects on hard fought victory at Somerset Park on Friday night:- "I think I played well but I need to keep it going."

Faissal El Bakhtaoui was forced to retire midway through the second half of the home match against Airdrieonians on 23rd August and after missing five matches through injury returned as a second half sub against Stirling Albion a week past Saturday.

On Friday night he started against Ayr United and made a huge impression. Jim Jefferies felt that his striker could have hit a hat trick since he hit the post early on, scored the only goal of the game after half an hour and hit the crossbar in the second half.

Off the park Faissal's form is also improving; his English has improved to such an extent that he can answer post match questions from the media. He described his feelings:-

"It was a good game for me and good to win as well. It was a big game to go top of the league. We now need to keep winning and keep scoring as well.

"I have been injured but was on the bench last week. At Ayr I started, scored and I think I played well but I need to keep it going."

With Faiss showing such form it should provide the manager with the competition he was looking for. Chigozie Ugwu found himself on the bench on Friday but his replacement was clear that the recent arrival from Reading has much to offer Dunfermline:-

"He is strong, quick and a good player as well. Me, Gozie and Moff can provide a good strikeforce."

Having scored 27 in 39 matches for them last season, Ayr United were well aware of the kind of a threat that Michael Moffat can be. That possibly caused them to pay particular attention to him and create opportunities for Faiss:-

"It was hard for him because he was there last year but he had a good game tonight. I collected a yellow card for a celebration to the fans."

The better celebration was at the end of the four added minutes seen out by referee Euan Anderson. The away support were in high spirits and before they left Somerset Park they sang and applauded the team. The 21 year old concluded:-

"It was really good and good in the changing room as well."
