Falkie says think Falkirk not Forfar

Sunday, 17th Aug 2014

A dejected Josh Falkingham spoke exclusively to the website following the disappointing 2-0 defeat at Station Park on Saturday.

Josh wasn't willing to believe that knowing they were going to Forfar served as a jinx on the team:-

"It is a tough game, we all know that before we come. You can complain about plastic pitches but for me I don't think it is that. The surface is as good as you will play on so that is not the case.

"If we had taken our chances early on then that would have been a massive difference. We could have put ourselves in front with a couple of clear cut ones. Then it would have been a different story but unfortunately we didn't do that and if you let sides off and give them chances they will come back and bite you and that's what happened. They were two sloppy goals.

"It is early doors in the season so you can't be too critical, we have got to be careful and not start being over critical. It is a massive problem but as long as we are creating chances, the chances will go in.

"Forfar like to get it long, put us under pressure and play off the big man (Chris Templeman). That is how they get their joy and that's what happened on Saturday. A little knock down fell to Dale Hilson who hits a decent strike and the other goal was obviously not a great one to concede. It was a setpiece but if you don't take your chances you can't win games."

Josh had played in the same team as Stuart Malcolm and Gavin Swankie when he was an Arbroath player, and of course Stephen Husband played alongside him for the last two seasons at Dunfermline. He claimed all that is put to one side as soon as the match begins:-

"You are here to do your job and win games but obviously after that I will not be speaking to them now for a while! I will be keeping my head down because of the real disappointment in not getting a result."

Stephen Husband's place in the Pars team has been taken by 18 year old Lewis Spence and Josh is trying hard to make it easy for the youngster to settle in as he experiences first team football for his first serious spell:-

"Spencey has come in and done really well. He gives a bit of a bite in midfield. Me, Geggan and Spence have clicked and got going in spells so far and in pre season. I was missing last week but this week we never (clicked) and we didn't get the result that we were after."

The 23 year old hopes to make amends against Championship opponents, Falkirk, in the Petrofac Training Cup second round tie on Tuesday night. Josh continued:-

"That is the good thing, the only positive really because we can bounce back again straight away. We have to get Forfar right out of our system and go again on Tuesday but it is not going to be an easy game.

"I watched the Falkirk game against Rangers on TV on Friday night and I thought they dominated the game for eighty minutes. They really did play Rangers off the park so it really is going to be a really tough game. They are a side similar to ourselves, they like to get the ball down and play. They will come at us so maybe that will help us a little bit."
