Flag day is for the fans

Skipper says flag is for all those who threw money in buckets

Pars captain Andy Geggan confessed that he might find it hard to sleep on Friday night but no matter what he is certain that he and his team mates will be up for the visit of Dumbarton. It was while playing for Saturday`s opponents that Andy was last in a championship winning side. This time around he feels it is much more important:-

"To do it at a big club like this is massive. It will be a special day. It is not just for me or the team it is for the fans. They have been waiting for this for a couple of years now."

Captaining the team makes it all the more poignant for Geggs who has been all the way on the Pars rollercoaster from challenging Partick Thistle at the top of the First Division in November 2012, to relegation at the end of that season, through the cash collecting days and all the efforts to win promotion back to the First Division. Andy knows how special the return is to the Pars faithful who have all chipped in as much as they could during the days of uncertainty. He continued:-

"The boys are all looking forward to it but it is the fans day. Some fans have been following this team for absolutely years so for a day to come like this, getting the flag again is special for them.

"The fans that we have here are unbelievable. They pay in money every month to keep this club going. They pay their season tickets every year."

Andy is aiming for a play off place, he feels that the team is more than good enough to finish there.

"In the first season back in this league that would make it that bit more special. We have an unbelievable team and even if results don`t go our way we will be playing out of our skins to get three points."

The new signings for 2016-2017 season have knitted into the squad at Dunfermline and Andy claimed that it was a tight group again this season:-

"The new boys have just stepped in as replacements. I don`t like to say too much but I feel that I have done pretty well getting into the box and getting goals, that is what the gaffer wants me to do. I will try my best every week to try and get one or two goals."
