Dunfermline Athletic

For Grandad and missing fans

Wednesday, 28th Apr 2021

“Everyone is fighting for places, there is good competition in the squad so it is probably at the right time ahead of the play offs

Being a local Kerr McInroy is well aware what it would mean for Dunfermline to play in the Premier League and is keen to be part of the team that achieves that both for the sake of the fans and his family:-

“It would be massive for the club, it has been nine years since they were back up there. A chance to play in the play offs to take us back up there would be good and obviously massive for the fans. Everyone will be looking forward to it.

“My grandad is a Dunfermline fan and I know that everyone in Dunfermline wants the team to do well. We want to do it on the pitch for the people who sadly can’t be in the stadium.”

After starting his football career at Blue Brazil, Kerr attended Woodmill High School before moving under the Celtic school project to study at St. Ninians High School in Kirkintilloch.

The twenty year old midfielder attended games at East End Park when he was younger and would sit in the stand with his grandad. He was present at the Scottish Cup finals in 2004 and 2007, both fantastic occasions that demonstrate how big a club Dunfermline could be as a football club if they were in the top flight. Kerr agreed:-

“They are a massive club and probably a club that should be in the top flight just with the size of the club and the following that it has got.”

Kerr was at Celtic in 2018 when Dunfermline last featured in the Premierplay offs and by then he was attending the occasional Pars game but he recalled:-

“I can vaguely remember watching it on the TV up at Dundee United. It has been a few years since they have been in the play offs so it is good to be back there.”

Having won their last two matches Kerr feels that it is important to win at Alloa on Friday night and go into Wednesday’s first leg Quarter final play off full of confidence:-

“We won the last two games, two good wins when we needed it after a little bad run. We will be looking to build up our momentum going into the play offs and hopefully get another win on Friday night.

“We have hit a bit of form at the right moment, everyone is in a good place, everyone is playing well. Everyone is fighting for places, there is good competition in the squad so it is probably at the right time ahead of the play offs which are going to be massive but we have Friday night to look forward to first.”

Despite it being confirmed that Alloa will be playing in League One next season, they are never easy opponents where Dunfermline are concerned, Kerr continued:-

“It will be a good game on Friday and it is still going to be a tough game. I would say that the pressure is off a wee bit but we will still be going there to win the game. Saturday was very nervy towards the end of the game to see it out and get us to the play offs.

“We will need to see out spells when the other team is on top of you but these are the kind of games that everyone wants to be involved in, everyone will be fighting for their place.”

Kerr has started 15 and subbed in to 5 of Dunfermline’s 33 matches this season, two of which he missed due to being part of Scotland U21 squad. Since the turn of the year however Kerr was an unused sub in 8 matches and on two occasions wasn’t in the match day squad. He commented:-

“I had a little spell out of the team but when I have come on in the last couple of games, I thought that I did alright. I will be looking to do my best against Alloa and put myself in a position where I could be playing in the play-off game on Wednesday. We will be trying to get the three points, play well and get a good victory.”

Being on loan at Dunfermline has been really good experience claimed the 22 year old:-

“I have learned a lot about myself and football. You learn from playing games and from all the good and experienced players in the squad. I have played against a lot of good players as well which has obviously helped. It has been a good loan move for myself. I am looking forward to going back to Celtic but I owe a lot to Dunfermline for bringing me here and giving me the chance to play.”

Since the end of March, Kerr has had fellow Celtic colleague Ewan Henderson with him at Dunfermline. So far they have only played in three games together but they have plenty of previous experience together:-

“Hendo texted me and told me that he might be coming to Dunfermline to join me. It was not happening and then it did happen quite quickly. I knew he was coming before he knew he was coming and he has followed me everywhere.

“Me and Hendo have played together since we were maybe 12. We were in the same age group and have played together the last ten years. We know each other really well, he have always played in midfield together. I am good friends with him off the pitch as well. It is good to have him here.

“He has been really good and has a few assists as well. I have no doubt how good a player he is. He has played quite a few games and made appearances (for Celtic) before making a few this season off the bench. He will be looking to go back and get himself into the team.”
