Tom Beadling says Dee is perfect way to start with a tough game against a side that has just come down

A match against newly relegated Dundee is just the ideal way to kick off the Championship season claims Tom Beadling.

This will be Tom’s third season in the Championship and he has made 37 appearances for Dunfermline since joining, initially on loan at the end of January last year, and then making his move permanent in July of that year.

“I think it is perfect way to start with a tough game against a side that has just come down. We will see where we are at and I am looking forward to it.

“It is a good game to start on, I think it is an exciting one and hopefully there will be a good crowd and a good atmosphere. A Friday night under the lights - it will be a good one.”

The 23 year old can play in defence or midfield and came through the youth system from the age of eight at Sunderland to become a regular in the club’s U23 side. It is from the days in Sunderland’s U23s that he knows both Dundee’s strikers, Danny Johnston and Andy Nelson.

“Both north east (of England) lads. I was at Sunderland with Andy for a while, so I know what he is about. I know that he is happy, he loves it up there.”

Tom came up against Andy Nelson and another of his former U23 team mates, Tommy Robson, now of Partick Thistle, both playing for Falkirk and he admitted that he enjoys coming up against players that he knows really well:-

“I like it, I feel that I can get the edge if I know opponents better. I’m sure that he will be thinking exactly the same but it all comes down to Friday night.

“The Dundee teams are title favourites but that’s completely fine. They are good sides, they have good players, we will respect them but we have good players as well. We know what we are capable of, we will treat it right, prepare well and see what happens.”

After winning every Betfred Group match last season including a a win over Dundee, Dunfermline went up to Tannadice for the opening Championship match and came away with a 3-2 victory. This season they have topped their Betfred Group again and Tom hopes that they can take that form into Friday night’s match against James McPake’s new look Dundee:-

“We need to keep the momentum going, don’t let it drop, take it game by game and not look too far ahead.

“We are working very hard on the training pitch everyday and it’s paying off because we are looking very sharp, scoring goals and getting clean sheets. Long may that continue.”

It will help considerably if Tom can keep scoring goals. So far he has scored in two of the four competitive matches played but his goal against East Kilbride last Saturday he rates as one of his best.

“As soon as it left my foot I knew that it was sweet. I am happy to get on the scoresheet a couple of times, a few of the other boys did as well so it was nice to get a few goals as well. I enjoyed the games.”
