Geggan`s victory clincher

Sunday, 27th Apr 2014

"We came here to get a result ahead of the play offs to get our confidence back up.

Geggan congratulated

Andy Geggan led the Pars to victory at Gayfield on Saturday scoring the winning goal eleven minutes from time. He told the website:-

"It was a good game. We came here to get a result ahead of the play offs to get our confidence back up."

As for his ninth goal of the season it was yet another winner, he described his view of it:-

"I just saw Danny Grainger swing it in and for one minute I thought I would pounce on it. I got it in the end."

The goal came from a free kick that Grainger played short to Lewis Spence who in turn sent the left back clear up the left. Andy revealed that his team mate is always looking to cash in on his ability to turn up in the right place in front of goal with such regularity:-

"Danny does that every day in training. Any time we play together in a practice match he always tries to find me. It has worked out today although I thought there were another couple of times when I thought he might have done it. We are doing well and playing good football. We need to start taking our chances, if we do that then we will be fine."

The 14th minute goal that put the Pars ahead was also a consequence of good football releasing Stephen Husband for a long range rocket at goal. When keeper Scott Morrison could not hold the Pars midfielder`s shot it was mopped up by Ryan Thomson:-

"There were about nine passes leading up to it. Good play up to the goal and I am pleased that Thommo got that goal. It will boost his confidence up as well. He has not played much lately so it will boost his confidence as well."

The mood in the dressing room is "nice and relaxed" according to the Pars captain:- "There has been a good team spirit all season, all round it is good."

Confidence at Dunfermline is recovering while those chasing third and fourth places to qualify for the play offs appear to be stuttering profusely with their challenge. Third placed Stranraer lost at Ibrox while fourth placed Ayr United lost at Forfar, and other contenders, Stenhousemuir were defeated at home by Airdrieonians. It wasn`t a day for a fixed odds coupon. Andy reflected:-

"I don`t know what happened there. Everybody lost and it didn`t make any difference to the bottom two either. We are just going to concentrate on ourselves, never mind anyone else and just get on with it."
