Geggan not giving up

Monday, 25th Feb 2013

"Never say never but the last few weeks have killed us a bit.

ANDY GEGGAN

Despite being beaten 4-1 Andy Geggan thought that the performance against Morton was the best Dunfermline had produced for a number of weeks.

"We were in the game and had Andy Barrowman not missed that penalty and we had taken our chances we could have won the game. Unfortunately it was a battle from 1-0 down.  I thought that we could come out in the second half and beat them but once we lost those two goals in the opening five minutes it was a killer. There was not much that we could have done after that."

Andy was loathe to completely give up on the promotion chase:-

"Never say never but the last few weeks have killed us a bit. The problems off the park are in our heads I would say. There's not much we can do, all we can do is keep the head down and keep battling away. We just have to train and play. A few weeks ago if you had asked if it was getting to the boys and they would have said "no" but results are telling it now. I'd say that it is getting into a lot of the boys' heads."

Andy said that captain Jordan McMillan was taking things forward with the players' union and felt that the players could only wait and see what happens next. He did however emphasise that the players at Dunfermline were not the kind who were likely to have huge cash reserves to see them through a tight period:-

"Some of the boys have just started their careers and it is a totally different scenario for us. I have never ever been in this situation; at Livingston they went straight into administration but I suppose the outcome will come over the next week."

Just getting by is how Andy described his personal position:-

"You are just hoping that next week we can get something. It just keeps going on and on and on. It is horrible but the boys have been brilliant with it. If they had another job outside obviously they would be away but we are under contract and that is a wee bit harder. The fans and the gaffer have been great but I just don't know what is going on at the Club."
