Goals on Matty’s agenda

Like most footballers Matty Todd is quite happy to play in any position as long as he is getting a game. The final 8 matches that he started last season were at right back but he has played in midfield in the recent pre season friendlies. He told the website:-
“I am enjoying being back in midfield again. Last season was a different kind of chance for me playing out of position, although I can adapt I’d say I’m a midfielder.”
The former Dunfermline High School pupil celebrated his 21st birthday earlier this month and has now made in excess of 40 appearances for Dunfermline. He is pleased with the pre season victories and particularly the match at Forfar where he scored the third of the Pars six goals.
“It was enjoyable, it is still pre season but it is always enjoyable when you get a win. It is now about maintaining the standards that we set on Tuesday night. Even on Saturday we were dominant against a good Cove side. It is now all about maintaining that standard. It has been a good start.”
Talking about his 40th minute goal at Station Park Matty continued:-
“It was a volley that I’m taking. It is always nice to score and it is something that I want to add into my game this season. Especially if I’m playing in that midfield role, it is something that I need to add as well as creating chances for Kevin, Lewis or Wiggy - whoever the front three are going to be.
“Even myself in midfield with Joe, we want to continue scoring goals and making chances for the other boys.”
Neither Cove Rangers nor Forfar Athletic managed to penetrate the Dunfermline defence and Matty sees shut outs important for the season ahead:-
“It is something that we want to build on, clean sheets will help us get to where we want to get to. It is good for big Deniz to keep clean sheets on Saturday and Tuesday, it is a step in the right direction for ourselves.”
While training at East End Park on his own during pre season Matty was the first Dunfermline player to meet the new manager when he arrived at the club. Naturally James McPake was impressed with the dedication of the young player who has not been scared of the hard work that the new boss keeps piling on his squad. Matty feels that they just need to keep on building on that and concluded:-
“We must work hard through the next year to see where it can take us.”
