Hardie re-united with JJ

Friday, 23rd Mar 2012

"Next week he will have a clearer view of what type of players we have at the club."

Martin Hardie felt that the first day of training under Jim Jefferies was similar to what they had done recently. He was very aware that his new boss was in observation mode to see what the players were like.

"Next week he will have a clearer view of what type of players we have at the club."

Jim Jefferies signed Martin for Kilmarnock from Partick Thistle:-

"I worked under him for a year in 2004 if my memory is right. Unfortunately I didn't play enough games because I had a groin injury. It was still a good learning curve working with him and Billy Brown. The players we had at Kilmarnock at that time were very experienced because a lot of them had been at Hearts with Jim."

Martin expects the new manager to make adjustments to the previous manager. He claims that the players will need to get used to a new way of thinking.

"There is always disappointment when a manager loses his job. He was the one who brought every single player to the club and in the fifteen months that I worked with him I really enjoyed my football. He was a good manager and together with Gerry McCabe they were good to work under. Everybody connected with the Club wanted to play for him. He was a man's man and it was a shock because he brought us here to play for him. He picked us to play for him and we just couldn't get enough points on board."

Saturday's opponents St Mirren are in the players scope and Martin expressed their feelings going into what they all accept is a massive match:-

"Between now and the end of the season the main focus is to get points. In the first game of the season we got a wee bit of a chasing because they played some good football. In the second game in Paisley, like in the first game, we improved in the second half . We just have to take the best parts of those two games into Saturday and hopefully get the points that are imperative for us."
