Hippo has hunger for success
Monday, 30th Jul 2018“I have a manager who has been interested in me for quite a while, that means that he is very keen in playing you and wanting to use you in his team.
Despite scoring two goals and taking his tally up to four goals in four matches, the Pars striker Myles Hippolyte was far from pleased with the performance against Stirling Albion on Saturday. He told the media:-
“We started the game very poor as a team, individuals including myself started the game poor. We should have had more intensity to the game but we got the result at the end of the day and that’s what counts. We know what we need to work on.
“I think my hold up play could be a lot better. Back to goal and things like bringing in boys. I have moments when I do that but I need to be good all the time. I know that is not possible, if I was able to do that every day I would be playing at the highest level
“However I am only 23 and in my time up in Scotland I have only played as a winger, left, right and maybe upfront as a couple of cameos. Apart from that this is my first opportunity to play in my set position upfront.”
The tall Englishman is a product of the Brentford Football Academy and was brought north by John McGlynn while he was in charge at Livingston.
“I am enjoying it, enjoying learning but I need to get like the old memories of what I used to do when I was younger and how I learnt to play that position. Hopefully with more games and more time I will get into that position and have the understanding a lot better with goals by the end of the season.”
Myles acknowledged that Allan Johnston has brought him to Dunfermline to score and create goals.
“The more goals I can get will be better for me and make me happier. Obviously I am happy to score but also want more. Hopefully I can improve on my performances all round, help the boys and help myself to show the manager that I want to start in the first league game of the season.”
Having arrived at Dunfermline from Falkirk via St Mirren Myles said:-
“The club has seen me play against them and in other games. I need to accept the challenge when coming across and playing for a rival team. The main thing is enjoying your football, at the end of the day I am going to support the club and do as much as I can for the club during my time here.
“It is a short career that you have and in order for me to get to the places and enjoy what I have in football I need to make certain steps and certain ways forward. Dunfermline with the manager and everyone that is behind the team, that was the perfect decision for me.
“I have a manager who has been interested in me for quite a while that means that he is very keen in playing you and wanting to use you in his team. In my eyes he maybe understands you a lot more than certain other managers and is willing to give you more of an opportunity. I felt that I have that with the gaffer. He knows that I am capable of a lot more.
“We had a talk in the changing room at half time, everyone understands what we need to do and we came out and scored two in a 10 minute period of the game. That is the perfect reaction that we needed.”
Myles got Dunfermline back into the match netting an equaliser to Stirling’s 36th minute opener in just the second minute of the second half.
“It is going to be a tough season for the team on the whole. It is a tough, tough league the Championship. As we saw last year, any team can win it. We would probably have said last season Falkirk were favourites to do well but they fell very short of what they were expected to do, including myself in that.
“This season is going to be completely different again however it is still going to be an open league. We just need to stay focused on ourselves, bond as a team and start playing the right type of football to show everyone that we can be a force.
“So far we have shown that in every game that we have played in the group stages. Going into the league will be another thing but if we keep the same concentration, same mindset we can definitely prevail and do well.”
The first Championship match is against Dundee United, a side many tipsters have taken to win this season’s Championship. Myles claims that he would rather meet these kind of opponents right away:-
“It is a massive game. If we get these out of the way now and hopefully do what we need to do in terms of result, that will be perfect for us.
“Every single boy in the dressing room, including myself, have a buzz going into every game knowing that we have defeated the teams that are supposedly up there contending with us to get promoted. If we can do that then without a doubt we will have a lot more confidence going into the other games.”
