In it to win it

06/07/21 Peter Grant: “I don’t care if it’s an egg cup. I want to win the tournament and I will put my cards on the table now, I would have great pride in winning the tournament

Manager Peter Grant gave his reaction to the draw for the SPFL Trust Trophy that was made earlier in the day and he pledged that he would be going out to get Dunfermline’s name on the cup:-

“I don’t care if it’s an egg cup, I want to win it! I just want to win it. I think that there is nothing better, there is not a better feeling.”

Having been fast tracked to the second round, the Pars await the winners of the first round tie between Hibernian B and Elgin City. The tie will be away from home on the weekend of 4th and 5th September. Peter continued:-

“I have played against Elgin a few times with Alloa and obviously we played the Hibs boys last Saturday and there is a combination of very good youngsters there.

“Every game that we go into we respect the tournament. I want to win the tournament and I will put my cards on the table now, I would have great pride in winning the tournament. I don’t care if people want to be involved in it or don’t want to involved in it, I want to win it.

“Hopefully I will have a group of twenty players that is more than capable of going into every game that we go into in that competition. That is what we have to try and do. I always say to players ‘never get sick of winning’. No one (game) is bigger than the other.

“My most important thing is to win the league but if I’m involved in the cup, I want to win the cup tie and that goes if playing against Elgin City or Hibs B. It would have been nice is it had been at home all the same! I am looking forward to it.

“I always love competitions, I was fortunate enough to get to the FA Cup final in England with West Ham. I was fortunate to enough to win the League Cup with Birmingham, I have won play off games, I have lost play off games so I know that I prefer the winning feeling. Hopefully I can get an opportunity to win something up here.”
