Josh fails to get Pars out of jail at Peterhead
Saturday, 22nd Aug 2015"Reflecting on it, a draw would have been the right result but unfortunately they got the goal that won the game."
Josh Falkingham spoke after the club's first ever defeat at the hands of Peterhead.
"Losing is never a good feeling and I think a draw might have been a fair result. We didn't start well, we didn't start like we have been doing unfortunately but to be fair we got back into the game with a good goal from Moff.
"They had chances in the second half but our chances in the second half made the keeper work more than they did. The keeper pulled off a few great saves for them and Ryan had an ask for a penalty. If that had been given then it might have been a different story."
Josh was taken down in the box and might have had a penalty for himself but on reviewing the video Sandy Clark had told Josh that the referee's decision was probably the correct one. "I felt that it could have been."
Introduced as a 20th minute sub, Josh said that he had been instructed to get up against his opponents.
"They were getting on to a lot of second balls and even when I came on I tried to help but probably got too caught up in it and gave the penalty away. It was just a tangle of legs and unfortunately sometimes that happens. I was told just to get up against the midfielders and throughout the first half we never got to grips.
"I felt that we got it together much better in the second half. We won a lot more second balls and when we did try and play I felt that we created some decent enough chances and should have probably have won the game.
"Reflecting on it, a draw would have been the right result but unfortunately they got the goal that won the game."
Josh had a very good shot at goal immediately after Michael Moffat's 44th minute goal.
"I was looking to put it in the bottom corner but the keeper saved it. After they went 1-0 up I felt that we had a lot of good chances. Their keeper pulled off some very good saves, especially the overhead kick from Moffat which could go in. Then the one from Ryan Wallace after he had just come on - he tipped it away from the top corner. It was a great save.
"Sometimes that happens but we have to be more solid. We need to look at ourselves and if that is the case, you don't get beat. We never managed to do that.
"We will have a look back at the video on Monday and make sure that doesn't happen again. I think it was a kick straight from the keeper's hands and we should be dealing with that better.
"The boys have been flying but we need to dust ourselves down and it is a great thing I think, that we have a game on Tuesday night. We cannot dwell on it, we must crack on. We felt that we were confident but unfortunately it didn't go for us."
Peterhead ended the Pars run of five wins - their best run of wins since autumn 2012. Now they go into Tuesday night's cup tie against Premier league opposition:-
"The pressure is on them. They are the SPL side, I know that they are away from home but they will be big favourites. It is a cup game and we have done well in the cups recently. We are just hoping to continue that and get back to winning ways."
