Kiltie’s slide says it all

Monday, 9th Dec 2019

Greg Kiltie polished off a good week with a goal of his own.

After assisting team mate Kevin Nisbet to seven goals in eight days, the on loan Kilmarnock player was delighted to grab one of his own, the second of three against Morton on Saturday. He told the media:-

“Nine points out of nine, you cannot really ask for much more. I think at the start of the week we would probably have taken seven but to take nine is brilliant.

“We are up to third though Ayr have obviously got a game in hand. That’s good going to be honest after the way we started the season. We just need to continue to build on what we have done, push on and keep getting points.”

Dunfermline went ahead when Nisbet scored from a 21st minute penalty. Controversy surrounded referee Steven Kirkland’s decision to have the penalty retaken after ‘Ton keeper Danny Rogers saved it the Pars striker’s first effort. No surprise Greg had little sympathy for the opposition whose keeper also collected a yellow card.

“The new rule that came in it is probably taking a bit of time to get used to. I don’t know if the keeper came marginally off his line but they are saying that you cannot do that these days. They are saying it is a law but if it was at the other end it would be (applied) the exact same way on us. It is what it is.”

Despite watching the Pars top goalscorer failing to convert the first attempt, Greg had every confidence that the second would be successful. He continued:-

“I think anybody that hits a second penalty usually scores from it. You don’t see many miss when retaken so I definitely fancied him to put it away.”

Greg described Kevin Nisbet’s form with eighteen goals this season to date, as ‘ridiculous’:-

“I want a few thanks off him. He is in incredible form and his goalscoring has been a joke with some of the finishes he has been producing. It is really nice playing off him.”

Greg put the Pars 2-0 up in 52 minutes, he joked that it was a really good goal!

“I don’t even know what happened to be honest, it just ended up on my foot, in the net and off I go. I was more than happy enough to tap it in.”

When Morton sub Reece Lyon got one back just ten minutes later the pressure began to be build on Dunfermline. Relief was huge, none more so for Greg, when Ryan Dow mounted a counterattack six minutes from time that Nisbet finished to put the game beyond Morton.

“I said to him, ‘you have no idea how happy you have made me!’ When we are defending like that and then get a goal to kill the game, it is brilliant.”

Last time Morton were the visitors at East End Park in April this year, on loan Greg scored a late winner for them. This time he had no regrets for reversing the result on his former club:-

“I want to win on the day, it is what you do whenever you go on the pitch, it doesn’t matter who is on the other side. It is not nice because I enjoyed my time there but I was delighted to score and make sure that we won. That knee slide went on for a while didn’t it?”

His goal on Saturday took his total for the season to three but he admitted that even though near impossible to catch Kevin Nisbet’s tally, that was not the important thing.

“I just want to keep producing for the team whether that is laying it off to somebody else or whether it is scoring. As long as we keep winning, it is not about me scoring I would happily pass it across the box for somebody else to tap it in. I’m not sure Kevin would to be honest! As long as we are winning I am happy.”
