Kirk double earns only a point

After opening his account in the Scottish Communities Cup the previous week, Andy Kirk was pleased to get his first league goals in the home match against Inverness Caley Thistle.

"It was important for me to get off the mark in the league, I was delighted with the two goals."

Whether or not to be happy with the result was a dilemna for both teams. Andy felt that Dunfermline could have gone in at half time with more of a lead:-

"It is a learning curve for us in this league. To be 3-2 down after being 2-1 up, we were devastated but we got the point and have to take the positives out of the game."

The first 45 minutes were particularly pleasing for both players and fans:-

"That's the way especially at home, that we have to play with plenty of pace and pressing teams. We need to play to our strengths. We are disappointed obviously having been in front but we have to take the confidence from our performance at times in the game and build on it.

"I think we deserved something out of the game because we were the better side in the first half. We might have been further ahead but if you don't take your chances you can be punished in this league."

Andy was substituted fifteen minutes from the end of the game having put his side into a 2-1 lead.

"It was hard to believe as I sat on the bench, that we were 3-2 down but at the end of the day Martin has popped up with another great free kick for us. We all looked at it when the free kick came along and thought it was maybe a bit too far out but he is capable of doing that and we are just delighted that he found the net.

"Sometimes people look at Martin and think he is a big guy and a wee bit rough and ready at times but he has a great touch, picks out a pass and hits free kicks like that. He has a lot of quality and that's why he is still playing football at his age."

The strikers were provided with many more deliveries than they had seen in the opening league game against St Mirren. Jason Thomson and Joe Cardle were principally the providers:-

"Joe is capable of producing bits of skill in moments which a lot of players don't seem to be able to do. Wee Joe will learn as he comes up against other teams throughout the season. Playing against better teams and better players can only improve his game."

Thirty two year old Kirk and Andy Barrowman looked good together as a strike force and Kirkie feels it is just a matter of playing more games together:-

"Most of the time in my career I have played with somebody who is maybe a bit more dominant in the air than what I could be. My game has always been playing around the edge and trying to get in behind, movement and things like that but we have hit it off pretty quick already. The more games we get together, the more understanding we will get with each other and hopefully Andy will get his first goals as well and we can build on that partnership."
