Lessons to be learned at Scully school

Monday, 18th Aug 2014

Ryan Scully admitted that the defeat to Forfar Athletic on Saturday was not the result the team had wanted:-

Ryan said "it puts us under a wee bit of pressure now for next Saturday when we need to get the three points.

"We must start learning from these mistakes, simple mistakes. We made them last year as well but we don't have the excuse now that it is a young team. We have another year's experience and need to learn quickly or else we are going to be struggling.

"We had three brilliant chances - not half chances - sitters, that we have to put away. When they don't take those chances it puts pressure on the defence. The opposition get a boost from that and get a few more chances of their own but we have to defend those, it is basic stuff for us.

"We were told at half time that with the wind going against us we need to stop shots. That is what we are looking for at setpieces and that is the two things that have done us at the end of the day. It is disappointing."

Forfar has proven to be an unhappy hunting ground for the Pars with only one win there since September 1995. Ryan claimed that the players know what to expect at Station Park but don't seem to learn from it:-

"They are strong up front and fling it up to big Chris Templeman, they work hard and get behind the ball. They will press for setpieces and every single time we come here we seem to give away goals like that. It is something we need to look at."

Although it took until well into the second half before Scully's goal was breached worryingly there was plenty of action immediately in front of the Pars keeper for several spells in the first half. It was a half where the stats showed that Forfar enjoyed much more possession than Dunfermline and Ryan admitted that play was all much closer to him than he would have wanted.

"I am there to do a job and I did that in the first half but it was just disappointing to lose the two goals. We wanted to go into the big game against Falkirk on a high with some momentum but we need to dust ourselves off. It is good to get a game quickly, we need to bounce back and hopefully get the result."
