Liam Buchanan Post Dundee

Wednesday, 23rd Mar 2011

"It was an entertaining game with both teams going for it. All credit to Dundee, they kept battling away and managed to get the goal to take a draw from it."

Alex Burke celebrates special goal

Liam Buchanan was certain that the spectators would have enjoyed the game at Dens Park on Tuesday night but for the players it was still disappointing to only draw:-

"It was an entertaining game with both teams going for it. All credit to Dundee, they kept battling away and managed to get the goal to take a draw from it."

The Pars goal came unexpectedly on 32 minutes; the first goal of the season for Alex Burke and his first since August 2009:-

"As soon as he drove forward with it and it left his foot, you felt it was going to go in. It was a great strike and don't know if he will score many more like that. It gave us a great lift and the game plan was working. It was just unfortunate that we conceded a goal from a set piece; it is not like us to concede from a set piece."

Dundee scored their second half equaliser but immediately before that the Pars had just failed to extend their lead and Liam was involved in that:-

"I just tried to cut it back for Joe, unfortunately someone has got in a block on it but I still felt even when they scored that we were going to get another one. Maybe on another day things would have dropped for us. There was the one to Martin Hardie at the back post that was unlucky to come back off the bar. We need to pick ourselves up and go again."

Liam Buchanan v Dundee

Liam was exhausted after leading the Fifers attack all night basically single handed and he half expected to have been substituted:-

"I thought it was number nine that was going to be flashed up but it wasn't. It was just enjoyable to be involved. We passed the ball about well, went one up and caused them problems."

Raith Rovers were held to a draw at home to Ross County but Liam felt that in such circumstances Dunfermline need to be taking all three points:-

"We need to be taking advantage; okay Dundee is a hard place to come, they are on a fantastic run so it could well be a big point come the end of the season."

That was Dunfermline's fourth and final game of the season against Dundee and a points haul of seven from the 12 on offer. The other title challengers have still to face the Dark Blues - the form team - as so Dundee will have a big influence on the eventual outcome of promotion:-

"There is a long way to go. There will be more twists and turns but it is still in our own hands. We are two points behind Raith but have still to play them (Saturday 23rd April at East End Park), so it is up to us as players to get together and go for it."
