Dunfermline Athletic

Major disappointment for Morris

Saturday, 5th May 2018

05/05/18: "We dominated the first half, I don`t think that we have been that comfortable all season.

"We were the better team over the two legs" claimed a very disappointed, Dunfermline Athletic captain Callum Morris when he talked to the media after the Premiership play off match at Tannadice on Friday night.

"But you have to be clinical in both boxes and I think that is probably what let us down. We dominated the first half, I don`t think that we have been that comfortable all season.

"In the second half when they got the goal it changed the game and put us on the back foot. Their keeper pulled off another good save from Nicky`s header when we could have got back into it.

"They got the second one and it was backs against the wall a bit. That was disappointing but I have got to give every player in that dressing room every credit. We have done so well in the back end of the season to get where we are now and we have just fallen short.

"We have given everything for two games and been the better team in my eyes. There was a lot of luck involved in United goals. It clattered off people`s shins, Ashy has headed the ball off the striker, you make your own luck probably so it is disappointing that we have conceded.

"Obviously on the flip side we have missed chances as well and we could have been home and hosed by half time. That is how it goes, you have to pick yourself up, dust yourself down and go again.

"I am proud of everyone in there for what we have done this season. It is a sore one but we will have to go again next season. We will take a break and come back fighting."

The pain seemed greater because the Pars had such good chances to be well ahead by half time, Callum added:-

"I think so. If you come here and you get a doing you walk away and hold your hands up and say `they were a better team` but it is almost comical how good we were. To come away with nothing leaves me lost for words.

"That is how it goes and obviously I wish them all the best going forward. I am just hurting at the minute with disappointment."

There has to be pride in the run that put the Pars in the play offs despite lying sixth just six weeks back. Twelve clean sheets in 2018 and 20 goals in the last eight league games brought them storming back.

"We spoke a few months ago about what we had to do to get where we are. We did it and did it in style. I don`t know what it was, clean sheets and scoring so many goals. We dominated pretty much every game we played.

"We put ourselves in a great position coming into this tie. Like I said, we let ourselves down with split second decisions rather than over the duration of the game.

"I think the boys will learn from it going forward as well. Obviously it is experience, you come away and have to look at the positives and the negatives, and make yourself a better player at the end of the day.

"We will probably trail on it but we just need to get on with it next season. It was a tough one to take, there is no other way to say it."

The players turned at the end to salute the massive travelling support and the skipper praised their contribution.

"I have said all season that they have been amazing from minute one until now. To have that many fans come up here was almost like a home game at times.

"Every credit to them, they have been brilliant and they have stuck with us through thick and thin this season, through the good times and that bad run we had.

"They are probably the catalyst that took us to the play offs. We all pull together players, coaches, fans, the town itself. I cannot thank them enough and hopefully next season we can give them more to cheer about. It was a disappointing end."
