Manager’s reaction to Betfred Draw

Wednesday, 31st Jul 2019

31/07/19: SC - “It is a good draw for us, it will be a big ask, one that we can look forward to

Having topped Group H in the Betfred Cup Stevie Crawford gave his reaction to the Second Round draw which saw them sent away to meet the cup holders, Celtic. The Pars gaffer commented:-

“Would we have liked a home tie against other opposition with a chance to progress in the tournament? Probably, but it is not to say that we cannot go there and shock Celtic. The exciting thing now for us as a coaching staff is that we are going to go to Parkhead and play against the team that has been the best in Scotland for a number of years now.”

The draw was definitely one that excited his young squad with their group chat following Sunday night’s draw certainly in the lively category. It will be the first visit there for a number of the young Pars players and for Stevie Crawford as a manager.

The chance to end Celtic’s ambitions for a fourth consecutive treble is the kind of big game that players, management and fans will look forward to. But before that there are two probably more important Championship fixtures to negotiate. SC added:-

“It is a good draw for us, it will be a big ask, one that we can look forward to but we have a massive game against Dundee coming up on Friday night and that is what we are focused on.”

There could be a financial boost from the Betfred Cup tie but the Pars boss has not had dialogue with his Chairman about any possible consequences.

“I have not spoken to Ross (McArthur) yet in regards to that but the cup tie. It will obviously help us but after the difficulties of last season I’m sure it will strengthen us as a club.

“The board have been great in terms of what we have been able to bring in so I am not going to be greedy on that one. If the opportunity arises that we can look to strengthen the squad, and if we feel that it is right, I will have conversations with Ross on that.

“At the moment we are only looking to bring in that one wide player. Whether we do anything more than that, I will not know that until I speak to Ross.”
