Jim McIntyre celebrates First Division title

MATCH PICTURES
After all Saturday's celebrations, Jim McIntyre almost forgot that he had to speak to the media:-

"I am just so proud of them to put on a performance like that when you have already won the trophy is just superb. It just sums them up - they are a great bunch to work with, they have been superb all season and even in our sticky periods they really did still work and strive for everything.

"It was a very difficult week for me because I had to make decisions about who I wanted to keep and who to let go. What I will say is that everyone of them leaves here a winner. They are winners and what a great thing that is to be part of.

"We were never out of it, we were always first or second. Most of the time we were second because the Rovers had a fantastic season. I have to pay compliment to the other teams and managers in the league. It is a tough tough division; a hard one to get out of."

The Manager has not really had much of a chance to get excited about next season:-

"I have had so many meetings this week and my head has been spinning a bit. It is starting to sink in now we have been presented with the trophy and we are going to have a wee party tonight but when I see the fixture list then I might get excited."

Dug out v Falkirk

Jim revealed that Stephen Pressley had presented him with a classy bottle of wine for his achievements:-

"He gave me a lovely bottle of wine the big man. A lot of things have been written because he is his own man - he was like that as a player- but Stephen Pressley is a nice guy and I wish him every success. I am glad that his board have extended his contract."

Macca recalled a five match sequence of matches without a win in the winter of 2009.

"As a manager there was a period in my second season where I was on a shoogly peg if you like. The Board stuck with it but we turned the corner and improved year on year. There are periods when every manager will go through that and it is important to go for continuity rather than just chopping and changing all the time.

Dug out v Falkirk

"The pressure of lack of finances in the First Division helps push that pressure button if you like. The Holy Grail is to try and get back up amongst the big boys where the money is. There are a lot of good managers. a lot of good teams and and a lot of good players in this league. I am really proud to be part of a winning team here because without the players myself and the coaching staff would be nothing."

The Pars boss paid tribute to the part played by the support:-

"The fans were magnificent today as well. Last week we took three and a half thousand down to Morton. We know that these are special days and we will not get carried away and say that it is going to be like that every week. The Falkirk game at the start of the season attracted 7000; there are more than Dunfermline who could bring crowds like that to the SPL.

"Dundee and Raith Rovers are well supported clubs, Partick Thistle too but that is not going to change. They want the current set up and we just have to go with that. It is just lucky enough that we have managed to get promoted this season. But I have to say that we have been the best team, we have scored more goals, conceded the fewest home and away so that has been our reward."

Stephen Pressley did not make the fast exit expected instead he stayed to say:-

"I want to say well done to Dunfermline" he declared.  This is a very difficult league and a very demanding season.  Jim McIntyre has done a fantastic job and well done to him. Our players should use this experience as a motivation for next season, in terms of moving us forward as a club."
