Manager Post Hearts

Jim McIntyre was very pleased with the attitude and commitment that his players showed in the victory over Hearts on Wednesday night:-

"It was a great working exercise for us against a good Hearts side. I thought we passed the ball really well and created a couple of good chances."

The Manager dismissed suggestions that the winning goal attributed to Kevin Harper had been put in his own net by Lee Wallace:-

"He is getting it from me. The last touch came off him; great play by Stephen Glass who fired a great ball across. Kevin showed the desire to get in on the end of it.

"We still have a bit of work to do. This is just one performance, but the right performance. It's a performance to build on, it is still pre season and it is not about results. It is about their commitment, their work rate and getting our plans across to them about the way we want to play.

The Manager was full of praise for all his players:-

"Austin McCann did very well and I thought Calum Woods played really well. There wasn't really a fault in the team to be honest. Alex Burke was excellent as well - slow first fifteen minutes but then really came into it and passed the ball well. Stephen Glass was exceptional as well."

Since Steven Bell (knee), Graeme Holmes (hamstring), Greg Ross (knee) and Greg Shields (calf strain) are all currently unavailable and Sol Bamba is away to the Olympics with the Ivory Coast, by the end of the game the senior players were surrounded by youth. Seven of those on the pitch at the end were 21 or under but warned the Manager that demonstrates the thinness of his squad:-

"That shows you how thread bare we are at the minute, we are working hard to add another three or four bodies because we definitely need them. If we pick up a few injuries then we are very light and it will be hard to maintain a push. They are pleased; they are good kids, good and eager. They are willing to learn and they got a wee taste of it tonight. That is excellent for them.

"We need another three at least. We need two strikers and I would like another midfielder."

All he would say in response to any potential signings in the offing was "not yet, to be announced."
