28/08/12: JJ - "I think we dominated in the second half and maybe at times had too much of the ball.

With Andy Barrowman finding the net within four minutes, Jim Jefferies felt that his team were "streets ahead" in terms of quality:-

"We got off to a great start but then we tried too many difficult things like shooting from 45 yards when you are not set up. Wee Ryan Wallace got in a couple of times and there were brainstorms firing it over from difficult angles. When Josh got in there and showed a wee bit of composure he set Ryan Wallace up for the second goal.

"We said to them at half time that the game could have been dead and buried within half an hour. You are always mindful that another goal can change the game quickly if it goes against you.

"I think we dominated in the second half and maybe at times had too much of the ball. It was good to give D'Angelo a run out tonight - he came on for Alex Whittle who had taken a knock in the first half. Then Shaun Byrne made his debut coming on late and wee Dargo got a 25 minute run. It was good for them to get some action there.

"We played some super build up play but were guilty maybe of missing that final finish. We could have run up a big score tonight, it could have been a lot more.

"Montrose are a plucky side but we were just too good for them on the night. It was a very comfortable win for us."

On learning some of the other scores from the evening ties and realising that Kilmarnock, Hibs and Ross County had all gone out of the competition Jim said "it just shows you that you can come a cropper."

"I said before the game that the most important thing about any football is not about how you play - we played well tonight - but being in the next round of the cup. There is no point in playing well and being out. We have done both tonight; we have got through and we have played really well and passed it around. We showed that we have some good lads at the Club who get it down and pass it.

"Andy Geggan maybe took a wee while to settle into that role after playing well there on Saturday but especially in the second half, he won some really important balls for us. Sometimes it was really good to watch but sometimes in that last third we were guilty of not finishing when we should have."

The match also provided a debut for Jim's latest signing, Callum Morris. The Manager felt that the 22 year old central defender was excellent:-

"He is a real quality player. When you consider that I put him in for the first time you could see that he has pace to burn and he can use the ball coming out, reads it well and is composed. I think that we have a real find there, hopefully he will develop. That is why we were keen to get him into the team even in the team for last Saturday but we couldn't get the clearance in time. He looks a right good acquisition. You can imagine him and Andy Dowie forming a good partnership there."
