As a former Dundee United player Jim McIntyre took immense pleasure from his side's 1-0 victory at Tannadice that saw the Pars move into third place in the SPL. It is a start that he admits is better than he could have imagined:-

"We are thrilled to come here and get three points was a great result for us. To be unbeaten after four games coming up from the First Division is a fantastic start for us. It is important that we keep our feet on the ground. All it is is a good start and I will continue to say that because we must keep our feet on the ground. It is such a difficult league and winning games is very difficult. We have got to make sure that we are grounded and look forward to the next game.

"I thought the back four were exceptional today and also the middle three getting back in to help with the second balls. I think Dowie was immense; him and Keddie did well but Dowie for me was the pick. I thought he had some outstanding challenges and he was very aggressive in the air, when you are up against such a handful in Daly. Also, the crucial save from Paul Gallacher was key. The first goal in any game is crucial and it can change the face of a game."

Alex Keddie and Andy Dowie v Dundee United

Macca felt that his team got back quickly to defend:-

"They have very good players who can hurt you but what we also wanted to do was to try and push on in their half and make sure that they did not get time for the full backs to pick long passes up to Daly that could cause problems. I thought the distances between our midfield back and front were excellent today. That was a key point in us doing well."

The gaffer stressed that his team has goals in them and so it was no surprise that as late in the game they were able to snatch the winner from the jaws of an admirable draw:-

"There weren't a lot of chances created. Martin Hardie had a great chance in the first half and possibly should have scored but he mistimed his header. He had a header in the second half that was probably rising but I do believe that we have goals in our team. We didn't create numerous chances today, you just need to look at the stats to confirm that but it was an exceptional defensive performance today."

Paul Burns scores his first Dunfermline goal

Jim McIntyre was delighted for his new signing Paul Burns to score his first goal for the club:-

"He was a bundle of energy the wee man, he was everywhere. He has great legs and enthusiasm. When you ask him to play anywhere he will play it. I knew what I was getting when I signed him; he is a right good player and a great type."

The Manager went on to highlight the great team spirit at Dunfermline and agree that it was possibly that which kept him team seeking goals right up to the end of games:-

"We did it a few times last year as well. Most clubs will tell you that they have a great spirit and a great bunch of boys, we are no different. Sometimes when you get late goals everybody thinks 'their spirit must be better'. All I know is that our team has a great spirit and we have carried on where we left off in the First Division but as I say we will keep our feet on the ground."

Peter Houston at Tannadice

Dundee United manager Peter Houston admitted frustration at the apparent lack of money available to strengthen his squad after a 1-0 home defeat by Dunfermline.

"It's a sore one, I think it was a wee bit of a smash and grab if I'm being honest. I thought we created a lot of chances. Paul Gallacher has made a world-class save. Credit to Dunfermline, they set up and made it difficult to score and they're going home with three points and a clean sheet.

"Take nothing away from them but it's their first shot on target that they scored from. It's very frustrating, very disappointing that I couldn't have asked any more from the players in terms of work rate. I thought the quality in the box - and even when it was going into the box - at times could have been better."

Commenting on no money from the sale of David Goodwillie would be coming the way of the manager, Houston added:-

"It is frustrating, every manager wants some players and I think we are short of a few but if that's the way it is and we haven't got any money....

"We work with what we've got and what I have got is an honest, decent bunch of players, albeit some young players will need to be thrown in that wee bit earlier than they are probably ready to be. There is no point me complaining about it, you just need to get on with it."

When asked if the result might change the board's stance on releasing funds for players, Houston said: "I don't know but it we had won 1-0 you might not be asking that question.

"I don't know if it's the final answer. It's up to the directors if they can muster something up, but I'll go with what I've got and work as hard as I can and I have a bunch of players who will work every bit as hard."
