05/02/22: link to audio of both managers post match comments

- - Listen to this John Hughes interview

Dunfermline manager John Hughes felt that the horrible wet and windy conditions at Somerset Park were not conducive to good football and spoiled the match as a spectacle:-

“I commend the two sets of players, we are in a spectator sport and that was not football but you have to commend the two sets of players for giving it their best shot. We really linked it up well in the first half, we got our goal and lost a real bizarre goal due to the conditions and we never really played the conditions to suit in the second half.

“That is probably down to what we are drilling into the players - keep the ball and pass it. It might be a wee bit alien to them just to turn teams. Even in the second half we hit the woodwork, Bobby Kamwa with that curling one. I was saying to myself ‘that’s in the back of the net’ but it wasn’t to be.

“We will take it, that’s us four unbeaten now, we need to keep moving forward.”

It was a horrible own goal for Jakub Stolarczyk to lose but he looked like he enjoyed his game?

“He has got courage there. I am really delighted for him, in the second half he had that save from the free kick. He showed real desire and courage today and he will be a massive player for us.”

The wild conditions appeared to suit some?

“It is a wholly different game of football - I don’t even know if it is football. But I felt the two teams tried to play football.

“In the second half we just needed to mix it up a little bit more. In the first half some of our link up play was very very good but we`ll take it and we are still unbeaten after four. It’s coming to the stage that you know what you are getting and you are starting to trust them.

“It is a hard place to come at the best of times and when it is like this overhead, blowing a gale and pouring with rain I commend the two sets of players for trying their best.”
