Memories of the Good Old Days

Gary Mason enjoyed pulling on the strip on Sunday in the Jock Stein 30th Anniversary Memorial match:-
"It was a good feeling coming back to the good old days and it was a good turn out by the fans as well."
Gary admitted to feeling the effects a bit after the match and not really having done much training for the occasion.
"I have been keeping myself fit but playing football is a bit different from just keeping fit yourself. It was good getting the boots back on. You miss it when you are not involved in the day to day stuff and the lead up. It was nice to play against Celtic again and their players."
It was a case of déjà vu all round for Gary who is now 35, he continued:-
"Even just walking in, bumping into the boys brought back all the memories from times gone by. I hadn't ever played with Istvan Kozma and Hamish French - they were great players in their day."
Gary who made almost 300 appearances for Dunfermline during two stints at the East End Park club, was asked to come off at half time but he would happily have kept playing.
"It was good for everyone to get a run out but I found it a bit difficult coming back on as a substitute. It was nice to get a win over Celtic and on another day we could have scored a good few more, their keepers had a good few saves.
"John Watson showed great composure as the keeper dropped and he managed to hit it into the roof of the net. The second goal was well worked as well, Stevie Crawford did a wee back heel and Bingham's finish was good. Celtic had some good players as well but big Marco did well for us. He gave us a clean sheet."
Occasional five a side football is all that Gary participates in these days but claims to always look out for Dunfermline's result and tries to get over to more games than he manages to.
"Sometimes work commitments make it difficult. The team has started the season well and I am sure if they keep that up they will get promotion and back where they should be. That result at Forfar was a big result because I expect Forfar to be up there challenging. Long may that continue because the fans deserve promotion."
