Moffat looking for better
Friday, 22nd Apr 2016Michael Moffat is hoping that his team can improve against Airdrieonians after a defeat at Stranraer which he felt was just not good enough.
"Even though we have won the league we do not want to be losing games, not by that kind of margin. Hopefully we can bounce back, we have a decent record on AstroTurf this season. Teams have still a lot to play for but we don't want to let the season peter out losing games. We want to keep winning games.
"There are boys still playing for contracts whether here or elsewhere. Maybe some who have maybe not had as much of a chance this season have been given more game time and they maybe have a pint to prove to the manager.
"Everybody always give it their all but the second half on Saturday I don't know what happened. We conceded sloppy goals and didn't really create anything in the second half. It is disappointing but we are hoping to get back to winning ways on Saturday."
Moff claimed it was important to the players that they set up a good end of season Saturday for the home against Peterhead when the Ladbrokes League One trophy would be presented.
"You want to play that game when you are getting a hold of the trophy."
Michael would like to add to the two goals he has already scored at the Excelsior and secure his place. He added "if you are playing on Saturday it is a good chance to stay on the team."
The 31 year old striker who signed from Ayr United in June 2016 has had a brief discussion with Allan Johnston about extending his contract, he said:-
"I would love to stay but it is up to the manager. Hopefully we will speak more over the next couple of weeks and get it sorted. I would love to have a go in the Championship again.
"He said that he was keen for me to stay but there was no talk a bout numbers. Hopefully we can get together and get it sorted soon."
Michael had a season in the second tier when at Ayr. He made 45 appearances during season 2011-2012 when Ayr were in the first Division and he feels that this Dunfermline team has shown on the way to the title that they would more than hold their own in that league.
"A club this size has to be aiming for the play offs. See the teams that are there just now - Raith Rovers have got fourth. Teams like Queen of the South are good teams but on our day we can more than match these kind of teams.
"The boys have done what we set out to do at the start of the season and done it with style. We have played some good football, scored a lot of games and won a lot of games. It would be good to keep the boys together but you never know if boys have other offers here or there, or the manager wants somebody else in."
