Inverness fans supporting Pars debutant

Having been with Dunfermline Athletic since the age of eight, Stuart Morrison was delighted to be given his league debut for the club on Saturday.

The 20 year old who started in a midfield role in front of the three centre backs, Danny Devine, Mark Durnan and Lee Ashcroft said:-

”It was my first real chance to get an opportunity in the first team in a league game since going full time last year. I was delighted to get the call when the gaffer told me on Friday.

”Obviously even though I`m a centre half I was played a bit higher up the pitch. It was a wee bit different, I just had to work hard and get stuck in, I thought I did that.”

Stuart had played in the same position in recent reserve matches and continued:-

”It was a bit unnatural but after ten years of playing for the youths I would play anywhere for Dunfermline. I was just delighted to get my debut but disappointed with the way the game panned out.”

Capped for Scotland at Under 19 level Stuart is out of contract at Dunfermline and he added:-

”There are meetings on Monday and Tuesday so I will find out then what is happening for next season.”

Inverness has featured strongly in his football milestones. Stuart was only days beyond his sixteenth birthday when Andy Barrowman handed him his under 20 debut for Dunfermline against Inverness Caley Thistle. He made his first team debut against Inverness in the Irn Bru Cup earlier this season and on Saturday, Inverness were the opposition as he made his first league appearance for Dunfermline.

The Inverness coincidence doesn`t stop there though. His mother, Stella was born in Inverness and although he attended Inverkeithing High School, it was Inverness matches that he was taken to for years and he was delighted to be present to celebrate at Hampden when Caley Thistle defeated Falkirk 2-1 in the 2015 Scottish Cup final.

”My grandparents used to stay in Inverness so I would come up for the weekend and watch the games. I followed them quite a lot but on Saturday I just wanted Dunfermline to get the win.”

Stuart revealed that his parents had already their tickets for the Inverness end before they discovered he was starting.

”They were delighted when I phoned them on Friday to tell them that I was starting. I had a few cousins as well watching in the Inverness end, so I`m sure that they will be happier than me.

”I am pleased to have made my debut and more special because it was at Inverness. I still look out for their scores after games but I`m fully focussed on Dunfermline.”
