New Goalie Coach starts

Friday, 30th Jan 2015

He is excited to come to a full time club and he has a wealth of knowledge that will help out in other areas as well

John Potter has filled the vacancy as goalkeeping coach that was created when his brother Brian left to take up that role at Hamilton Academicals. He revealed to the website that Andy Goram joined the coaching staff at East End Park today (Friday 30th January). Potter was delighted to secure the services of a keeper capped 43 times for Scotland.

"I was prepared to wait for the right man. Brian was advising me of someone who would a similar goalkeeper. I did not want to change everything around for Ryan Scully and Ryan Goodfellow. Brian spoke to him and thinks that he will be very good for us.

"Neil McCann went to speak to him on Sunday and he was very excited about coming in. I spoke to him a couple of times this week and it was all agreed."

Andy joins until the end of the season and will be in two or three days each week plus match days.

"He is happy with that and wants to work with the goalies we have got. He is excited to come to a full time club and he has a wealth of knowledge that will help out in other areas as well. I am glad to have him on board, he will be good for us."

Andy Goram first worked as a part-time goalkeeping coach when he returned to Motherwell in 2002. He later coached at Airdrie United in March 2006 and then Clyde from February 2008 until September 2008. In January 2012, Andy helped Hamilton Academical with their goalkeeping coach crisis and in January last year, took up the role of goalkeeping coach in the coaching staff at Ayr United.

Andy began his football career at West Bromwich Albion but was released by them as a teenager. He established himself at both Oldham Athletic and Hibs before joining Rangers in the summer of 1991 for a fee of £1m. He went on to play 184 games for Rangers between 1991 and 1998 but in total he has played for eleven different clubs, most notably at Motherwell and a brief loan spell at Manchester United. Goram has also represented Scotland at cricket.
