No fear says Scott Wilson

Thursday, 4th Jan 2007

At the minute, it doesn't matter which competition we are in, we need a goal in a game to give us a bit of confidence. We are a team playing without any confidence.

Scott Wilson is not fussed who Dunfermline play next, whose in charge of the opposition or whose playing in the opposing team. His priority is solely to be part of a Dunfermline team that scores more than their opponents:-

"Just to win a game would be better than anything, it doesn't matter who it is against. We are due to win a game soon - it's the Cup, anything can happen. At the minute, it doesn't matter which competition we are in, we need a goal in a game to give us a bit of confidence. We are a team playing without any confidence."

Very aware of the five matches without scoring a goal and eight without a win Stephen Kenny's side are in dire need of a boost. Scott is keen to use the Cup tie as a route to recovery and make good use of the home advantage:-

"The Cup takes your mind off the league and it is a chance for us to build up some confidence. We should not have any fear against Rangers, it's at home. Very few teams have given us a right doing at East End this season, Aberdeen were the exception - even then, we gave them the goals."

Scott was clear that a win on Sunday would be very nice but it's certain that all the Pars players and management would rather have SPL points. If a Cup win can be achieved then that might just be the turning point required to instigate a first SPL win since 18th November:-

"We have nothing to fear at home, we need to get a few goals to take into the league form." He couldn't help dwelling on Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at the hands of Hearts:-

"I feel that I am repeating myself every time but at the end of the day we lost a silly goal and missed good chances. It does make good reading when you are sitting at the bottom of the league. The chances don't go in and you wonder where the next goal is coming from. It is the same story at the other end; the goal could easily have been avoided.

"In the first half we probably gave Hearts a wee bit too much respect for the team that they put out. They had a lot of guys who had not played football for a while. We realised at half time that we couldn't sit off them because they are still good players. In the second half we got in about them and deserved a draw out of it but when you are down you are down. Nothing goes right for you."

Feelings were high amongst Pars players and Scott explained why he seemed to be giving some of his team mates a considerable amount of mouth:-

"When you are down there you are looking for someone to blame. If somebody is not doing things right you are always on top of them. It's just the way it is. It is nothing serious, it is just having a go at each other just to wind each other up. There is no malice behind it."

Let's hope come two o'clock on Sunday, it is Ian Durrant's men who are looking someone to blame!
