Opportunity for Barrowman

Saturday, 25th Jun 2011

"I am determined to do better than the last time in the SPL. I feel better equipped as a player and as a person to do that. I am looking forward to that challenge.

Liam Buchanan, Paddy Boyle and Andy Barrowman

His last game for Ross County was against Cowdenbeath on 7th May but Andy Barrowman feels that  It has been a long wait for the new season coming around.

"My contract was up at Ross County and luckily enough I had a few options but I chose to come to Dunfermline. I feel that it is a good move and obviously SPL football."

Andy joined Dunfermline on a two year deal and met up with his new team mates when pre season started this week but it was the Manager who was the most pleased to have him at Pitreavie:-

"This is the second or third time that he has tried to get me over the last two or three years" explained Andy, "obviously that's a massive factor when he rates you."

The 26 year old striker has played against Dunfermline six times in the last two season, scoring against them in both campaigns. He was a great admirer of how the Pars played in the First Division:-

"Dunfermline are a good side, they play good football - they pass the ball well and won the league playing the right way. They like to play with wingers and when you are a forward what you want is crosses into the box. I am excited to be part of it and looking forward to the first game."

Andy was a team mate of Andy Dowie and Alex Keddie at Ross County but he also knows Paul Burns from his seven months on loan spell at Queen of the South in season 2006-07. Andy claimed that he knows most of the Pars players from playing against them, not hard given that Dunfermline is his tenth club:-

"I have been at a few teams, most of them on loan deals. When I was at Birmingham it was difficult to break into the team so you get put out on loan. You are maybe only there for a month, so that can be misconstrued."

Andy Barrowman

Working hard to get into the team is top of this new players list.

"This team won the First Division last year so they are a good side and I need to make sure that I am in the team first and foremost. That's what I aim to do and I would hope to bring goals to the team, that's my job at the end of the day."

A broken foot at the start of the season kept Andy out of football last season:-

"I fractured my metatarsal in the second game of the season and was out for months. I didn't come back until October so it was just ten goals that I scored."

Despite the return of Derek Adams to manage Ross County, Andy had already made the decision to leave:-

"I had already spoken to people at the club and told them that it was time to move on. I had options in the SPL and wanted to take one of them because you want to play at the highest level. Derek Adams wishes me all the best and he understands why I did it. There are no hard feelings; these things happen in football - he did it himself by going to Hibs. "

For Barrowman who has Premier League experience at Kilmarnock (2006-07) and more extensively at Inverness Caley Thistle (2008-09) the move to Dunfermline is a welcome chance to make his mark in the top flight of Scottish football.

"I am determined to do better than the last time in the SPL. I feel better equipped as a player and as a person to do that. I am looking forward to that challenge."
