Owain Fôn Williams returns to international stage

Thursday, 5th Nov 2020

Congratulations to the Dunfermline Athletic keeper who returns to the Wales international squad

Owain Fôn Williams returns to the squad alongside Newport County’s Tom King, with both Wayne Hennessey and Adam Davies out injured. The 33 year old Dunfermline Athletic goalkeeper was part of the Euro 2016 squad and earns his first call up since 2017.

The Cymru Men’s squad are back in action at home following last month’s three away matches against England, Republic of Ireland and Bulgaria, with yet another triple header during this international window.

A squad of 29 players have been named for the upcoming matches in November against the USA in the Liberty Stadium on Thursday 12th November, Republic of Ireland three days later in the Cardiff City Stadium and Finland on Wednesday 18th November at the same venue.

A larger than usual squad has been announced to cope with the tight run of fixtures, with Gareth Bale also returning to the squad having been unavailable for last month’s matches due to injury.

Wales’ Nations League campaign resumes against the Republic of Ireland and Cymru currently sit at the top of group 4 in League B, with Finland in second place and just a point behind.

Dunfermline goalkeepers have represented Norway and Scotland in the past. Geir Karlsen was capped six times for Norway while at East End Park and Eddie Connachan twice for Scotland. There has never been a Welsh player capped while playing at Dunfermline so Owain could be the first.
