Pars Supporters’ Trust Review of 2015

Tuesday, 5th Jan 2016

The PST was among the first to welcome new manager Allan Johnston to Dunfermline Athletic.

January

Pars new signings Jim Paterson, Andy Barrowman, Kyle McAusland, David Hopkirk and Paul George had to get kitted out in Pars training gear. Unfortunately, the stock of team wear supplied by Joma at the beginning of the season had already been allocated so Head Coach John Potter turned to the PST to ask if we could help. The PST was happy to fund the kit for the new boys and help them feel part of the Pars family.

Everyone was saddened to hear the story of Dean Brett who plays for local rivals Cowdenbeath. Dean and partner Gemma had lost 4 week old baby daughter Mollie who had been born prematurely with her twin sister then, a few months later, Gemma passed away after suffering from a rare form of cancer. The PST offered to facilitate the collection of donations for the Mia Brett Foundation, Dean and Gemma’s surviving twin.

February

A cheque for £15,000 was handed over to DAFC Director Billy Braisby during half time at the game against Stenhousemuir. This brings the PST investment in Pars United (CIC) to an amazing £228,000.

April

An informal get together was arranged in Charlie D’s where the PST’s continuous members were joined by others who have provided invaluable help to the PST over the last 10 years. The long standing PST members were each presented with a commemorative scroll by the Pars management team of John Potter and Neil McCann.

May

The PST was among the first to welcome new manager Allan Johnston to Dunfermline Athletic. Allan was only too happy to become a member of the PST recognising the important part played by the fans at the football club.

Winner of last year’s first prize in the PST Christmas Raffle, Ian Marchant, recently returned from his two night stay in Barcelona which included tickets for a match at the famous Camp Nou stadium. Ian chose to attend the La Liga match against Valencia given their association with the Pars dating back to the 60’s and that epic European tie.

July

The PST had a stall at the Club’s Open Day and strip launch event at the Glen Pavilion. As well as running a ‘Spot the Ball’ competition, the PST also organised a picture board where kids to take their place in the goal celebrations after the memorable Martin Hardie free kick against Raith Rovers!

Around 40 people turned up for our Tutored Beer Tasting event held in Charlie D’s. The evening was hosted by John Reade from the Abbot Brew House in Dunfermline. John had brought along 8 pins (36 pint kegs) of different ales for everyone to try. John was on good form giving the attendees an understanding of the processes and techniques used to produce the ales at the 17th century style brew house. Proceeds from this event were shared between the PST and the Dunfermline Athletic Heritage Trust.

August

A packed Royal Bengal Tandoori restaurant played hosts to the Pars Supporters’ Trust Curry Night. Almost 70 Pars fans were joined by manager Allan Johnston, along with coaches Sandy Clark and John Potter. After a delicious 2 course banquet style meal, the Pars management team took part in a Q & A session.

September

A cheque for £10,000 was handed over to DAFC Chairman Bob Garmory during half time at the game against Ayr United. This brings the PST investment in Pars United (CIC) to an incredible £238,000.

November

‘Where’s Sammy? The Mystery of the Missing Mascot’, a children’s book written by author, playwright and Pars fan Mike Gibb was launched. Mike had approached the PST with this fund raising initiative and we were only too happy to get involved. The book is aimed at all children aged 5 to 95!! Almost 350 copies had been sold prior to Christmas.

December

The PST had a stall in the Kingsgate Centre where copies of the new children’s book ‘Where’s Sammy?’ could be purchased along with commemorative Norrie McCathie t-shirts and the popular ‘Into the Valley’ book.
For their Christmas night out the Young Pars were joined by players at Bowlplex. The event was sponsored by the PST. Nine Pars players turned out to complete the teams at Fife Leisure Park. Andrew Milne was the highest scoring Young Par.
