Pars are Wunderbar!

Hospitality shown to the holidaymakers from Germany sealed their support ever since,

The Pars Supporters’ Trust has a number of members who live abroad and most of those are either ex-pats or have some kind of family connection with Dunfermline. However, the PST does occasionally come across members who don’t fit into either of those categories and this is true of Jurgen Dickten and Thomas Baeck.

The picture shows Jurgen (on the left) and Thomas outside the Rewirpower Stadion, home of VfL Bochum.

Jurgen and Thomas are lifelong friends from Bochum in Germany and their affection for the Pars actually came about through their love of music – in particular, their passion for Runrig and Big Country. Whilst on holiday a number of years ago touring Scotland, the two friends were drawn to Dunfermline to see the town associated with their music idols.

Their journey took them past East End Park and, as keen football fans, they decided to pop in and visit the club shop. They each decided to buy a Pars shirt but once DAFC staff heard what brought them calling, they were invited to take a look around the stadium and to have their pictures taken out on the hallowed turf. It was the hospitality shown to the holidaymakers from Germany which sealed the deal and ever since, Jurgen and Thomas have kept a close eye on the Pars results, usually after watching their ‘home’ team VfL Bochum play in Bundesliga 2.

Jurgen and Thomas subsequently joined the PST and have even been back to East End Park to take in a game against local rivals Cowdenbeath. They’re currently planning another trip to the Kingdom next April for the Pars final league match of the season against Peterhead where they hope to join in the celebration party should the Pars seal promotion back to the Championship.
