Dunfermline Athletic

Pars sign up young keeper

Tuesday, 19th Aug 2014

Cammy Gill signed a two year contract with Dunfermline Athletic on Monday 18th August.

The sixteen year old was delighted when he spoke to the website:-

"It is a dream come true since I have been here since the under tens and a contract has been a goal of mine for quite a while. It is great to finally achieve it.

"I think the plan is for me to play a lot of the Fife Academy games and maybe a few under 20s but the main priority will be the Fife under 17s. I will be getting game time with them and the occasional game for the 20s.

Cammy will be one of four full time goalkeepers with 17 year old Jamie Wilson challenging for the places in the under 20s when Ryan Goodfellow is not starting. Cammy trains with Ryan Scully and the others and when it comes to Youth Cup matches it will be just Jamie and Cammy in contention. Cammy said:-

"It is a good rivalry and we are good pals as well. Even when Brian Potter is not there we all work together. They are a good bunch and I really enjoy it. Brian Potter is great as a coach. When I first came here Davie Westwood was my coach and he has been really good since I was in the under 10s."

While on day release from fourth year at Gracemount High School in Edinburgh Cammy trained last season with Ryan Scully and Ryan Goodfellow under the guidance of Brian Potter.

Cammy waited until he received his exam results before signing for the Pars. He crammed doing extra voluntary tutoring in the Easter holidays so that he could leave school:-

"I had Maths, English, Biology and Computing and passed all of them. I put in the work because it was an ultimatum from my mum and dad to get good results. It all paid off in the end. Two years as a full time footballer will be better than going to school. I will take a day release to attempt higher PE and a couple sports leader volunteer badges."

Coach John Potter commented:-

"Cammy has been in with us for quite a while and he is one that we have been wanting to sign for probably a year or two. He has done the right thing. His dad made sure that he had his school results and since they came through last week we are just delighted to get him signed.

"He will play for the Fife Academy every Sunday. He played his first game there on Sunday. I am taking that so I want him to play in those games. He will get his game time there and fight with the rest for under 20 games.

"He has trained every day with the first team since he came in. He has worked with Brian (Potter) and he is a goalkeeper that we have high hopes for. He has done really really well since he has been in the system."

Cammy started off at Edinburgh South Boys Club and joined Dunferrmline Athletic at Under 10 level and has been here ever since. Davie Westwood was the goalie coach that picked him up and one of his first coaches was Roger Arnott.
