Dunfermline Athletic Football Club are extremely sorry to learn of the death of former player, Peter Millar at the age of just 62.

Peter joined Dunfermline Athletic in November 1969 following very closely in the footsteps of Barry Mitchell who two years previously also signed for the Club from Arbroath. At that time he was only 19 years of age and a draughtsman by occupation but interrupted his apprenticeship to take up full time training with the Club. He came from Wishaw where he began his football career with Netherton YMCA.

From there, he moved to Hamilton Avondale and from there into the junior grade with Forth Wanderers. As with his previous clubs, he played with Forth as a half back and spent three seasons in this grade before he signed for Arbroath. Previously, he had trials with Motherwell and Hibs.

PETER MILLARPeter had played only five games and another three as substitute for the Arbroath senior team before he was signed by Manager Farm for a fee reported as £12,000.

He had been utilised mainly as an inside forward by the Second Division side.

He scored from the spot for the Pars at Fir Park in 4-1 win during season 1971/72 and this might have been the catalyst for Motherwell boss Bobby Howitt, to snap him up in the summer of 1972. He made one representative appearance for the Scottish League against the English League in 1974

After 238 games for Motherwell, scoring 22 goals he was allowed to moved on and joined newly promoted Dundee for 1979/80 season.

The Club's condolences are with his wife Jean, his children Nicola, Barry and Peter and the rest of his family and friends.
