Dunfermline Athletic

Peter Millar Returns

Monday, 31st May 2010

Believe this when I say this, because I have watched every single result that Dunfermline have had since I left the club in 1972.

Peter Millar

Peter Millar joined Dunfermline from Arbroath in 1969 and stayed for two and a half years. He was a guest in the Kingdom Suite at the home match against Dundee in March. In interview with Jim Leishman he said:-

"I am very privileged and proud to be asked along through the Dunfermline Formers Players Club. Believe this when I say this because I have watched every single result that Dunfermline have had since I left the club in 1972. Even when I went to America to play for six years there, my Dad used to send me the results from the Sunday Mail and I used to watch for the scores from this club."

Peter made 26 appearances for Dunfermline, scoring three times.

"I didn't play an awful lot in the first six months. I was finding my feet and George Farm allowed me to play in the reserves. When Alex Wright and George Miller came in there was a disbanding of the team and the opportunity came for me to join my home town team, Motherwell. I had supported them since I had been a boy and I stayed there for seven years before leaving to go to Dundee.

"I was proud to play with Jim Leishman in his younger days and I was on the bench when we played Anderlecht in Belgium in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup. Anderlecht neat us 1-0 but it was a great experience to be surrounded by the guys who had won the cup in 1968 and to be part of that set up was absolutely magnificent."

Peter had great admiration for his team mate Jim Thomson at Dunfermline.

"Jim had great composure on the ball and I could see he had the makings of a good player."

Peter was then asked to comment on Manager George Farm:-

"When I was playing with Arbroath I was invited with my dad to meet George at a hotel in Princes Street in Edinburgh. He was a total gentleman, he never swore, never cursed. When I went to training the next day I got nothing but Fs and Cs out of this man and I had to change my opinion of him. To be honest was an absolutely lovely guy and God rest his soul."
