William Hill

Inverness equaliser

Eleven days after a 1-1 draw courtesy of a 95th minute goal that earned  Inverness Caley Thistle a Fourth Round replay in the Scottish Cup, the two sides do battle again at East End Park on Wednesday night.  The prize for the winners is a lucrative Sky game at home to Celtic.

It was hardly a surprise to the bookies that this game went to a replay since the Pars record in Inverness was not the best and  they have now won only twice at Inverness in 12 visits. At East End Park Inverness have won more times than Dunfermline and of course the Pars home form in the league this season has not impressed and they are without a win in front of their home fans since May.

In the Scottish Cup the sides have only been drawn together only once - in the 2004 Semi Final. That time it took a replay to take Dunfermline past the First Division highlanders. The first game was played at Hampden on Saturday 10th April in front of a crowd of 13,255.  A Craig Brewster goal midway through the second half made it 1-1 and the teams were to meet again ten days later at Pittodrie.

It was an unpopular choice for the replay that many felt should have been held in Tayside and with the game being shown live on Sky TV only 5,728 turned up on a cool but sunny evening beside the beach in the Granite City. Caley Thistle took an early lead but Darren Young got the Pars back level in 25 minutes. Brewster put Dunfermline ahead for the first time in the tie on 63 minutes and then 15 minutes later a gem of a goal from skipper Barry Nicholson secured Dunfermline`s place in the Scottish Cup Final, their first since 1968 and a place in the next season`s UEFA Cup.  David Bingham scored a late consolation for Caley Thistle but the Pars won 3-2 to safely qualify for European football for the first time in 35 years.

A `sporting` reception is expected for Inverness striker Gregory Tade on Wednesday night. The recently re-confirmed Raith Rovers supporter and former Rovers player still seeks revenge for the Pars win in April that killed off his team`s promotion challenge.

The French born Tade said: "It is a great game to be involved with and for myself it is even more special. I am still a Raith Rovers fan at heart and when you add that to the spice of it being a cup game I think they are going to give me a very, very good welcome! In the first match they certainly didn`t forget that I used to play for Raith. They gave me a bit of stick, but they are only doing that to try to throw me off my game and I don`t expect anything less.

Nick Phinn v Raith Rovers

"Dunfermline broke my heart before. The match at East End Park at the end of last season was the hardest ever. We were top and they were one point adrift so we needed a win but they beat us, and it was very hard to take. They got promoted and we didn`t, even though I think we did better over the season.

Andy Dowie v Raith Rovers

"But credit to them, they won the league. Now I have changed team, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth. It is a bit sour that they managed to win the league and get to the SPL while Raith didn`t. That only adds a bit more to the fact I really want to beat them."

There is little doubt that the Pars defence are equally motivated at the sight of the 25 year old who has scored eight goals in 22 SPL appearances including the winner against Motherwell on Saturday.

Referee will once again be be Euan Norris.

Come on ye Pars!
