Queen of the South 1-0 Dunfermline
Sat, 27th Feb 2021

Queen of the South capitalised on Dunfermline’s poor away form to register their third win in a row.

It looked like the Fifers luck had changed when they were awarded an 11th minute penalty. Craig Wighton was upended by James Maxwell right in front of goal and referee Mike Roncone pointed to the spot. McManus took responsibility for the penalty but fired low to the right and Ferguson went the right way to save.

The hosts scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game five minutes into the second half. Jones provided the trickery on the left and although Watson blocked the on loan Middlesbrough player’s shot, the ball fell nicely to Willie GIBSON and he crashed his 20 yard effort into the Dunfermline net.

The visitors would end the game with ten men after Lewis Mayo was shown a second yellow and Dunfermline were left to puzzle how with so much possession and good play they failed to take any points home.

Recent Form

Last Saturday Queen of the South manager Allan Johnston felt that the least they should have left Inverness with was a point.

This season Queen of the South have succeeded where Dunfermline didn’t - win away to Raith Rovers. Their other three points were won with an away win at Cappielow. They have yet to win any league points at home and have not drawn a league match this season.

Dunfermline have now drawn their last three matches but have shown fighting qualities in these games that gives encouragement and hope that they could secure the victory at Palmerston Park that would lift them off the foot of the table.
