Reserve League Cup

Arbroath v Dunfermline Reserves

ARBROATH 2 DUNFERMLINE 2

Dunfermline fielded a trialist and gave on loan Jamie Mole a start in their Reserve League Cup match against Arbroath at Gayfield but got off to a bad start losing a goal inside two minutes. Colin Cameron slipped the ball to Scott Gates down on the left and when his cross was headed back across goal from the far post, Robbie RAESIDE`S looping header dropped over keeper Craig Bald and in at the right post.

It was 14th minute before the Pars threatened from a powering Paul Willis run that took him into the right side of the box to fire a low shot on target but Scott Morrison held, albeit at the second attempt.

Five minutes later an impressive penetrating run by Cameron allowed Forsyth to drill the ball at goal but Bald pulled off a fine save. The visitors were gradually getting their passing game together and in 26 minutes Alex Burke bore a route towards the right side of the opposition penalty box. Mole received a square ball from him and took a touch before shooting but when it was blocked, Iain Williamson was presented with a good opportunity but blasted the ball narrowly wide right.

Gates provided another fright for the Fifers defence, flashing the ball across the face of the goal but just too far in front of Robbie Ross to be effective. Dunfermline punished their hosts for not taking the chance with two quick goals. Willis picked out Mole on the right and his delivery from the byeline was turned in just five yards out by the TRIALIST.

Fifty seconds later the Pars snatched a second with Williamson supplying MOLE with a ball that he dispatched past the keeper at his near post.

Dunfermline forced a number of corners on the left hand side but their best effort was a Lee Graham header that he directed inches wide of the left post. Arbroath almost capitalised on the counter-attack that came from a cruel rebound in their own half, but Bald was well out his box to deny Gates.

Arbroath`s equaliser came in 38 minutes when ROSS rocketed a ball that had been blocked by Willis to find the net from all of 25 yards. Just before half time Forsyth swung a ball from deep that Gates prodded around Bald, but Graham was back to heroically scoop the ball off the line.

Half time: Arbroath 2 Dunfermline 2

Willis had a good attempt with a fierce shot from the right side of the penalty box but Alan Rattray deflected the ball away for a corner. Arbroath sub Terry Masson released a good ball for Gates on the left corner of the Pars box but his shot went over the bar.

Austin McCann tested the keeper with a good low shot from a Willis cut back and McBride sent a corner from the right straight through the Lichties  box.

Lee Graham`s challenge on Gates gave Arbroath a 77th minute free kick but McCulloch sent that soaring into the stand. With seven minutes remaining it looked like the home side would notch the winner.  Masson laced the ball through for Lunan on the right side of the box and his crossed ball was met by Forsyth at the far post.  Amazingly his firmly struck shot was driven wide of the right goalpost and the match was to finish all square on two a piece.
