Scott Morrison Post QOS

Saturday, 15th Mar 2008

"I blocked it, it hit my knee and then maybe hit my hand a little bit. It was ball to hand not hand to ball. I think the referee just waved it off because he saw that as well."

Ball bound for the net

Scott Morrison celebrated his first goal for Dunfermline on Saturday when he found the net in 26th minute of the match against Queen of the South. The 23 year old who has been told that he will not be offered a new contract at the end of the season hopes that the goal will heighten interest of potential new employers.

Stephen Wright had been screaming from the dugout to get someone with the right foot to strike the free kick but Scott explained what happened:-

"No one claimed it so I thought I'd step up and have a go. The last goal I scored (actually the only other one) was a free kick for Aberdeen against Hibs at Easter Road. Stephen Glass was winding me up . I called it near post but I saw the goalie edging towards his near post checking his distances. I thought he was trying to cover it too much over the wall but I think if a left footer is going to hit it from there he is going to go for the near post. I just thought I'd stick it in the other corner and thankfully it has gone in.

"There is never a bad time to score but it is good for the confidence and that will do me good I think."

Scott who is almost 99% certain that he will be joining another club in Scotland is such an irregular scorer, the Aberdonian admitted that he had no idea how to celebrate a goal:-

"I didn't know what to do, I just walked away and then the boys jumped on me. They saved me a bit."

When the ball jumped up and struck Scott's hand in the second half there were loud appeals from the Dumfries crowd for a penalty:-

"They had a few claims I think. Late on they were shouting for a few so I think the referee just thought that they were just shouting again. I blocked it, it hit my knee and then maybe hit my hand a little bit. It was ball to hand not hand to ball. I think the referee just waved it off because he saw that as well."

Scott and his fellow defenders fairly weathered a storm near the end, as the fourth placed team in the league pushed for a winner:-

"We spoke about it after the game, what we could maybe have done. We could have cleared our lines better because we felt when we were clearing it was coming back quickly. We were finding it difficult to squeeze up - midfield found it difficult to squeeze up and get the second ball off the strikers. Defenders were clearing up there and we just couldn't seem to get out. They had a game plan and they were maybe more accustomed to the pitch."

Being harder to beat has been the difference since Jim McIntyre took over thought Scott:-

"We have not lost too many games. Maybe six months ago we wouldn't have had got a draw. That is pleasing for the boys to know that. We know we need to play better but the pitch was quite soft and it is hard on a pitch like that."
