Nipper has lucky charm in wee nipper Archie

Dunfermline v Ross County

Scott Thomson was beaming as he talked about only his third Pars goal in four years. His sixth minute strike direct from a free kick 30 yards out was a real beauty but he felt confident that it might have come seven days earlier:-

"I fancied the one at Dundee when we got a free kick near the end of the game. I said 'I'll go and hit it' but Andy Kirk said 'no you are a centre half so get to the back, I'm hitting this' so I said today, I'll definitely be on them today/ Lucky enough it went in, it was a good strike and I was happy with it.

Scott Thomson fires in free kick v Ross County

"Andy Kirk just asked 'is that your distance' and I said 'anywhere there is mine!' We had a bit of a laugh when I was running back."

Nipper has scored from free kicks before the last against Partick Thistle in October 2002. Of course few in the current dressing room would be able to remember that but Scott did let them know that his latest strike was no fluke:-

"I was winding them up in there when they said that was my best free kick but I was saying I think I have scored one better than that. It was a great strike from me and certainly one of my best ones."

The former Pars skipper scored in the last match of last season against Queen of the South but joked that the previous was against Dundee in 1975. It was really October 2004 but given his injury wrecked seasons after that it may well have felt like 33 years ago!

Scott Thomson celebrates

"As soon as I struck it I thought that was away and I wanted to celebrate it. I ran over because my wee nephew Archie was here for the first time to watch a game. I was pointing saying that's for you. He is a lucky charm although he is only seven months old. He probably won't remember it but I will tell him about it anyway when he's older.

"We never played well, the gaffer said that. Even at half time when we were winning 2-0 we were not playing well. When they went down to ten men we never kept the ball well enough. We have played better; we played well against Partick Thistle at the start of the season and got nothing out of the game. That was probably one of the best games we have had this season so if you play bad and win it can only mean good things for you.

"There was great work rate from Nick Phinn and Steven Bell. Bell obviously never played at the beginning of the season but he is getting his fitness now and it is great to see two young boys in front of you bombing up and down.

"St Mirren on Tuesday takes us away from league business. We are all looking forward to it, everybody wants to play and we are getting bodies back again."
