As we go into 2007 the Pars Manager is full of hope for a change in fortune at Dunfermline Athletic Football Club and he needs everybody rooting for success in the new year:-

"We have to try and lift it. We cannot be pessimistic. There has been a lot of pessimism throughout the whole season I believe. It has gone very much against the club's plan. I cannot detach myself from that because I am the Manager and have to take responsibility as well. This is not anyone else's problem, it is mine - I have to galvanise the team and try and retrieve the situation."

His team have taken 14 points from the first 22 matches. Last season Dunfermline entered the new year on 13 points from 21 matches, one point ahead of Livingston with Falkirk on 17 and Dundee United on 21.  This season they are a point better off but because teams in the bottom six have been taking points off the top teams the next nearest - St Mirren have 23 points, albeit from one more match played this season.

"It is a test alright because you are getting news of Motherwell of winning four in six before Saturday, Dundee United winning five in eight. We are going to have to accept that with 16 games left there is a lot of football to be played.

"We can't despair. We have to concentrate on winning games and not look at the league table. Not look to far ahead. We have Hearts on Tuesday - we played well at East End against Motherwell - we have to try and win the game and see where it takes us."

From being described as adrift, the Pars are now termed 'anchored' at the foot of the league but everything will be done to avert that status reaching 'sunk'. Stephen Kenny sees the Hearts match as the next opportunity to at least get things back afloat, although he knows that will not be plain sailing:-

"It was going to be difficult for us to create a lot of chances against Hibs. We did create and few and we had to take them. We did not create enough probably but there were some that we didn't take. At home against Motherwell we created a lot of chances, played very well. There was a cutting edge to our play; we have to do that at home at East End and see how it goes against Hearts."
