Goal number two hits the net

Goals one and two were welcome treats for the East End faithful:-

"Owen just took a touch inside and I arrived late to get on the end of it. Jim O'Brien as well - great ball into the box and I just got an early header in the back of a defender and it's in the net."

Stephen might also have scored towards the end of the first half:-

"It was a carbon copy of the first goal but I got too much glance on it and it went by the post. Another great ball in, the service has been great."

"I thought we played well and deserved it. I was just glad to get on the scoresheet; two goals were just great for me."

Great perhaps but the yellow card he received for the celebration was not so:-

"You don't really think about these things. It was just a wee bit tongue in cheek to the fans; they were giving us a bit of stick, looking at it now maybe it was a little silly.  You lose your head when you score, I will probably regret it tomorrow.

"I was just doing that like I was smoking a cigar as if it was easy.  It wasn't easy; maybe a bit silly but these things happen. Iain Brines booked me the last time when I scored against Rangers and I never did anything. So if I am getting booked for not doing anything and getting booked for doing that you can't win.

Iain Brines brandishes the yellow to both Jim O'Brien and Stephen Simmons

"He is a good referee most times, maybe he could have let it go. I miss the Semi Final."

The yellow card in the Rangers match Stephen explained:-

"He said that I could have started a riot, but I never left the park, everybody was jumping on top of me and I couldn't really have done much.  These things happen, you just have to get on with it.

Stephen Simmons Celebrates
Celebration in the Rangers Cup Tie

"We hope for a good draw and stay clear of Celtic if they win tomorrow. That is all that teams like us are looking for - stay clear of the big two and take your chances.

"Our Cup form has been good but our home form has been good.  If we had taken our chances against Kilmarnock we could maybe have won three points but we beat Hearts and beat Rangers; Rangers took one off us and then we beat Thistle today.  Our home form is quite good and hopefully we can build on that for the league games.

"I don't think it is less pressure in the Cup, we want to win every game but we seem to take our chances in the cup and maybe not so much in the league."

Last season Stephen missed out on the trip to Hampden for the CIS Insurance Cup Final against Celtic because he was cup tied with Hearts.  In April he will miss the Semi Final, he added:-

"I don't think I am supposed to play at Hampden, maybe its something in the air."
