Stevie ready for when it all kicks off

Sunday, 14th Jun 2020

14/06/20: SC - “I am just fully focused on trying to get the best team, best squad together that allows us the chance to compete.”

No matter what eventually comes of proposals for league reconstruction in Scottish football, Dunfermline Athletic should find themselves in the second tier, harbouring ambitions of course to return to the top flight for the first time since relegation in 2012.

Manager Stevie Crawford is just keen to see the league set up agreed and be given an idea of when the Championship can kick off the new season. Further updates are expected this week from the SPFL with it being reported that a 27 match schedule starting in mid October is a likely outcome:-

“My own personal view is if they are going to go ahead with league reconstruction it has to be what all the Chairman of the clubs agree on. It cannot just be a quick fix for a year or two years but it is out of my hands because as a manager my job is not to decide on how the leagues are reconstructed.

“We are faced with something that we have never faced before. I have taken the view that whatever we face we have to face. We have to get on with it trying to be as positive as possible. What will be will be with the leagues and I am just fully focused on trying to get the best team, best squad together that allows us the chance to compete.”

Currently nothing is clear but if there is to be no reserve team football next season, Stevie would expect to trim the size of his squad. He feels that is another challenge although it has not been 100% decided if that is the case.

“We are trying to get the Championship up and running, then obviously League One and League Two but I think it’s going to be difficult to play reserve football next season.”
