Talbot tackles the Lions

Monday, 13th Jul 2015

The 29 year old was captain at Livingston last season and he reflected on playing against his old club.

Jason Talbot started his football career at Bolton Wanderers and arrived at Livingston in 2008 via Derby County, Mansfield Town and Port Vale. Before Saturday he had never come up against his former club in a match so the friendly on Saturday was a first. The 29 year old was captain at Livingston last season and he reflected on playing against his old club.

"I played ninety minutes on Wednesday but it was good to get another ninety minutes against the old club. I was there seven years so playing against some of the boys that I have played with for the last couple of years did feel a bit strange."

Of course the Englishman was not alone since centre back Callum Fordyce had followed him to Dunfermline. The meeting wasn't at Almondvale but at Albyn Park, the ground of juniors, Broxburn Athletic. Jason continued:-

"The pitch wasn't the greatest but you try and concentrate on your own game. Me and Callum gave 100 per cent, we are Dunfermline players now and that is what we have to concentrate on.

"I am buzzing and cannot wait for the new season to get underway. I know we have two cup games coming up and hopefully we can get them out of the way as quickly as possible. We will class them as pre season games to give us more fitness, but hopefully we will get wins to kick on into the league campaign."

The Johnston - Clark management team are new to Jason but he is delighted with the feeling of confidence that is breathing through the team as a result of them.

"Fitness-wise I think we are spot on and I think we will run over the top of teams this year which will be vital. We are a big club, people will put the title of favourites on us whether we like it or not but we will just take it game by game and see where it takes us."

Allan Johnston and Sandy Clark won this league with Queen of the South and Jason hopes that experience will rub off at Dunfermline:-

"They have brought in players with experience like myself and Callum who have been in this league as well as the Championship but we have a good set of young boys too."

Returning to the match against Livingston Jason felt that his new club should have beaten their higher league opponents:-

"We had quite a few chances and the only chance they had was in the first half where one clearance got in between the two centre halves. Big Jordan White hit the keeper, that was their only chance. We had a few more, one off the side of the net. Darren Jamieson made a few good saves but we will take confidence from the chances we created."

Jason sent over useful balls all afternoon, he took the majority of the set pieces for Livingston last season and it something he wants to be involved with at Dunfermline:-

"We were just trying a few things out on pre season, there are new players but hopefully I will be on a few setpieces."
